Grant Management

Successfully implementing and managing a GEAR UP grant is hard work. Over the years, Arizona GEAR UP has developed and refined its forms, guidelines, standards, policies and procedures to facilitate the hard work that it takes to successfully implement and manage a GEAR UP grant.  We are grateful for the contributions from other grantees along the way who have generously shared their good work (as we have shared ours), recognizing that the common mission and goals of GEAR UP serve to unify us more in collective success than our differing project designs. The Arizona GEAR UP documents, shared by way of the links below, are available to any grantee for adaptation and use to their particular project. Please feel free to also contact us at the email addresses listed on our Contact Us page.

Summer Programs Accordion Closed

The documents provided by way of the links below are the primary documents used to facilitate the planning, staffing, management, operation, and implementation of Summer Programs hosted by Arizona GEAR UP.  The GEAR UP Summer Leadership Academy (GUSLA) was designed to motivate students to succeed academically in high school; enhance their study, communication and positive decision-making; develop leadership skills; and achieve personal goals. The one-week residential program takes place on the NAU Mountain Campus in Flagstaff.

When students wanted to return to GUSLA a second (or third) time, the GUSLA Ambassador Student Program (GASP) was created.  GASP was designed to build on the important skills learned in the prior year(s) and to provide increased opportunities for the development of leadership skills.

Every summer the curriculum was designed to meet the needs of the students based on their age, grade level and developmental stage. The documents below are from 2017, when the students were rising seniors.
