Degree Tracking
How Do I Track My Progress Towards Graduation?
There are currently two degree audit tools in use for graduate students at NAU: the Program of Study, which will be fully retired by Spring 2028, and the Graduate Academic Advisement Report (Graduate AAR), which is replacing the Program of Study for all Master’s, Doctoral, and Graduate Certificate programs.
As of Fall 2025:
- Nearly half of NAU’s graduate programs has transitioned over to using the Graduate AAR (see list of first-wave and second-wave programs).
- Graduate AARs are under development for all remaining programs; therefore, Programs of Study should continue to be used for students in these programs (see list of third-wave and fourth-wave programs).

Update:
- The table shown on 4:40 projects the original timeline for the implementation of the Graduate AAR. Third-wave programs were anticipated to undergo the transitionary stage in Fall and Winter 2025; however, there has been a significant delay due to the efforts required for NAU’s undergraduate General Studies redesign project. Third-wave and fourth-wave programs will be notified when their AARs are ready for use. In the meantime, these programs should continue to use the Program of Study.
Exception Requestor Training Accordion Closed
The Exception Requestor training should be completed by faculty and staff who will be serving as Exception Requestors.
Please follow these two steps to access the Exception Requestor training, which consists of a self-paced video followed by a quiz:
- First, enroll in the training on Canvas.

Fall 2025 Training Date:

You must be present for the entire length of the training to receive the Exception Processor e-Pass.
Using the Program of Study
If you are a student in a third-wave or fourth-wave program, please download a Program of Study for your catalog year and work with your advisor to plan your path towards graduation. If your program is not listed, this indicates that it is a first-wave or second-wave program. Students in first-wave and second-wave programs should scroll up to view “Using the Graduate AAR.”

What is My Catalog Year? Accordion Open
The NAU Academic Catalog is the official source and repository for all curriculum, and is published for each academic year.
- Programs of Study are created to reflect the curriculum included in the Academic Catalog for each corresponding academic year.
- Graduate students are responsible for learning their program’s curriculum requirements for the year in which they begin their graduate studies, and meeting those requirements for graduation.
For example, students admitted in Fall 2024, Winter 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025 fall under the 2024-25 catalog and must utilize the 2024-25 Program of Study.
Can I Move My Catalog Year Forward? Accordion Closed
If desired, students may move their catalog year to a subsequent year after admission.
For example, students in the 2024-25 catalog may choose to switch to the 2025-26 Program of Study, or any Program of Study thereafter.
Can I Move My Catalog Year Backwards? Accordion Closed
It is not permitted for students to move their catalog year to a prior year before admission.
For example, students in the 2024-25 catalog may not utilize the 2023-24 Program of Study, or any Program of Study prior.
