NAU Safe
The NAU Safe app is the official safety app of Northern Arizona University. The app features notifications and alerts, tools for responding to an emergency, tips for staying safe on campus, and other enhanced features.
Lumberjacks, make sure to update your preferred and mobile phone numbers in NAU ID Portal. For more information, view our NAU Safe article.
- Send your location in real-time to a friend, so they can follow your path, as you walk to your destination, and can place an emergency 911 call to emergency services if necessary
- Get in direct contact with emergency services, which activates a map in the NAU Police Communications Center so they can see where the caller is
- Report a Crime Tip
- Request a Safety Escort – NAU Police Department (NAUPD) provides this escort service on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus for students, faculty and staff based on the availability of police and Student Security personnel
- Request a Motorist Assist
- Choose which NAU campus location you would like to receive notifications from
- Sign up for emergency alert notifications from numerous Arizona counties

The Active NAU Population is automatically opt-in to the NAUSafe Alert Notification System.
All population includes:
- Faculty
- Staff
- Employees
- Students
- CIE Program
- Affiliates (Visiting Affiliates, Sodexo Employees, Adjunct)
All current campus locations.
The methods include: SMS Text, Push Notifications, email and voice call.
Via Voice Call:
- Voice Call will prompt to press 9 to unsubscribe.
Via Email
- User can click on “Unsubscribe” in the body of the Email
Via Text
- User can reply to text by saying “STOP” to Unsubscribe
NAU has your Preferred Phone number on File within NAU’s ID Portal System.
NAU has your Mobile Phone number on File within NAU’s ID Portal System.
If your Mobile Phone number is your Preferred Phone number, we only have your Mobile Phone # on file.
- Download the NAU Safe app to their phone and select their preferred campus location(s) by clicking the About/Preferences button, then the Campus Locations Settings button.
- Go to your phone’s notifications settings and ensure the NAU Safe app is set to receive notifications.
- You will now receive push notifications through the app!
