Notice regarding the May 7th Canvas incident

NAU Information Technology Services is aware of an issue affecting the university’s learning management platform, Canvas. This afternoon, Instructure, the company that develops and hosts the Canvas platform, has reported that the service is down for users globally following a cybersecurity incident.
NAU is closely monitoring the situation and working to determine the full impact on the university. ITS is currently working alongside university partners to support Lumberjacks during finals week and throughout commencement.
Users can subscribe to updates on this issue through the ITS Service Portal. Updates will be provided as necessary with any additional information as the situation progresses.
May 7th, 10:00 PM MST Update
Instructure has brought the Canvas platform back online, and NAU users can once again access the service. We’ll be continuing to monitor university systems throughout the end of the semester.
May 8th, 7:45 AM MST Update
Instructure has given an all-clear for Canvas following yesterday’s outage and has brought the service back online for users globally. Our technical teams have tested and verified access, and Canvas is once again available for NAU users.
Additionally, we’ll continue monitoring and investigating any further potential impact on university data and systems.
For students with coursework impacted by yesterday’s outage, please reach out to your instructors so they can help with arrangements.
Faculty can request an extension to their Canvas course using the Canvas Course Extension Form.
