Listed on this page are the sponsored affiliate categories offered by the university. Before submitting a request for a new Sponsored Affiliate account at NAU, verify the IT services the user will need access to. IT service access for Sponsored affiliates depends on their Affiliation Catagory, so selecting the appropriate category and affiliation type is necessary to ensure they have the required access to support their partnership with the university.

Affiliate Categories, Types, & Descriptions


Physical Access Only Accordion Closed

This affiliation status is for individuals who have contracted with a NAU department to provide services to the University and ONLY need physical access to buildings on campus.

Physical Access Only An individual from a third-party organization who ONLY needs physical access to buildings on campus and does not need access to any NAU IT resources. 0464

Credentialed Associate Accordion Closed

This affiliation category consists of affiliates who are entered into NAU computer systems for identification management purposes only.  While their identification on computing systems is necessary to facilitate other types of services from various campus departments, no additional computing services are necessary. Examples include vendors, certain alumni, persons receiving NAU ID cards for service purposes other than computing, and members of the general public who have a membership to the Recreation Center.

NAU Sodexo Employee An individual associated with Sodexo who have a minimal need for NAU IT resources. 0461
University Contracted Associate An individual who is under contact with a specific department at NAU and requires identity verification but a minimal need for NAU IT resources. 0462
University Vendor An individual from an external organization who provides services to NAU and requires identity verification but a minimal need for NAU IT resources. 0463

Collaborative Associate Accordion Closed

This affiliation category includes organizations located outside of any NAU campus or those that do not require many NAU IT services. These organizations have established a partnership with NAU, but their home organizations provide the majority of IT services that they require. Examples include (but are not limited to) the Flagstaff Arboretum, the Museum of Northern Arizona, various consultants, and approved vendors.

Campus Living Guest An individual who is residing in Campus Living facilities who is not a formal student or employee of NAU but requires building access and general NAU IT resources. 0444
Faith Based Organization A religious organization representative who provides services but is not directly funded or managed through NAU with a limited need for NAU IT resources. 0445
NAU Sodexo Supervisor An individual associated with Sodexo who relies on Sodexo’s infrastructure for most IT resources. 0446
University Partner/Consultant An individual from a third-party organization who has been contracted to provide specialized services to the University and typically uses their own IT infrastructure with minimal NAU IT resource access. 0447

Collaborative Student Accordion Closed

Members of this affiliation category require access that an NAU student might receive. This affiliation category facilitates collaborative academic work with students who are not formally enrolled at NAU traditionally because they are a member of an outside academic program taking place on the NAU campus or remotely.  Examples include (but are not limited to) Cline Library affiliates, the IHD SELECT program, the Park Ranger program, and the Upward Bound program.

College Prep Program A high school student who is participating in one of the TRIO or other college prep programs at NAU but is not an official NAU student who needs student-related access to NAU IT resources. 0457
LMS Access An individual who is participating in an educational program at NAU but is not an official NAU student or employee who needs student-related access to NAU IT resources. 0458
Visiting Student A student from another institution who is participating in an educational program at NAU but is not an official NAU student who needs student-related access to NAU IT resources. 0459

Adjunct Accordion Closed

The Adjunct affiliation category is comprised of professors that are generally recognized by the Department Chair and may or may not have an associated salary. Adjunct status requires approval by the Provost’s office.  This affiliation category is assigned by department to facilitate administration and assignment of sponsors.

Adjunct Faculty An individual who is recognized by an academic department as part-time or non-tenure-track instructors who assists with teaching responsibilities. 0442
Keim Lab – Adjunct Faculty An individual who is recognized by the Keim Lab as a part-time or non-tenure track instructor who assists with teaching responsibilities or research collaboration. 0443

Collaborative Campus Associate Accordion Closed

This affiliation category includes community or fraternal types of organizations hosted on the NAU mountain campus or another NAU location such as NAU Yuma or other statewide offices. These affiliated organizations tend to have a closer working relationship with NAU and typically require more extensive IT services. Examples include (but are not limited to) US Forest Service members, researchers, visiting scholars, auditors, consultants, and certain contracted employees.

Future Employee An individual who has accepted employment at NAU but has not officially started and needs temporary pre-employment access to IT resources for onboarding purposes. 0448
Intern NAU Campus An unpaid intern working with a specific department within NAU, often as part of an academic or professional program, who needs comprehensive access to IT resources. 0449
Keim Lab An individual who works closely within the Keim Lab for academic and research collaboration who needs more comprehensive access to IT resources. 0450
NAU Follett Manager An individual associated with Follet to provide services to NAU and requires more comprehensive access to IT resources. 0451
NAU Sodexo Manager An individual associated with Sodexo who needs comprehensive access to NAU IT resources. 0452
Research Assistant An individual who assists in conducting research activities within a specific department of NAU who needs comprehensive access to IT resources. 0453
University Collaborator An individual who works closely with a specific department for administrative, academic, or research collaborations, often requiring more comprehensive access to IT resources. 0454
University Volunteer An individual who is volunteering with a specific department at NAU in the pursuit of various initiatives who needs comprehensive access to IT resources. 0455
Visiting Faculty/Scholar An individual from another institution who works closely with a specific department at NAU for academic or research purposes but is not an official employee or student at NAU who requires more comprehensive access to IT resources. 0456

Retiree Accordion Closed

The Retiree affiliation category is reserved for faculty or staff who have officially retired from NAU and requested that their access be maintained during retirement. Retiree status is vetted and approved through NAU Human Resources.
This affiliation type can only be submitted by Human Resources after the proper paperwork has been submitted and approved.

Emeritus Accordion Closed

The Emeritus affiliation category is reserved for faculty who have served as an NAU faculty member for at least ten years and are recommended by the Provost to the President. Additional details about Emeritus status can be found on the Office of the Provost website.
This affiliation type can only be submitted by Human Resources after the proper paperwork has been submitted and approved.

All University Sponsored Affiliates with access to University IT Resources are required to participate in Cisco Duo Multifactor Authentication (Two-Step)

#Affiliate Categories with access to University IT Resources are required to take NAU IT Security Awareness training yearly. Failure to pass this required training will result in loss of access.

* All Microsoft 365 applications are limited to a Microsoft A1 Web Access Only license. Desktop application access is not provided by default to any sponsored affiliate.

** Telephony services are unavailable to individuals without a Microsoft A5 license.

*** NAU Parking Passes are available for purchase and are not provided free of charge to any sponsored affiliate.

⚠ Retiree and Emeritus affiliates with the University will need to request a secondary affiliation to obtain Lenel Door access. Door access will not be retained when transitioning to a retired status with the University.
