Listed on this page are the sponsored affiliate categories offered by the university. Before submitting a request for a new Sponsored Affiliate account at NAU, verify the IT services the user will need access to. IT service access for Sponsored affiliates depends on their Affiliation Catagory, so selecting the appropriate category and affiliation type is necessary to ensure they have the required access to support their partnership with the university.

Affiliate Categories, Types, & Descriptions
Physical Access Only Accordion Closed
This affiliation status is for individuals who have contracted with a NAU department to provide services to the University and ONLY need physical access to buildings on campus.

Credentialed Associate Accordion Closed
This affiliation category consists of affiliates who are entered into NAU computer systems for identification management purposes only. While their identification on computing systems is necessary to facilitate other types of services from various campus departments, no additional computing services are necessary. Examples include vendors, certain alumni, persons receiving NAU ID cards for service purposes other than computing, and members of the general public who have a membership to the Recreation Center.

Collaborative Associate Accordion Closed
This affiliation category includes organizations located outside of any NAU campus or those that do not require many NAU IT services. These organizations have established a partnership with NAU, but their home organizations provide the majority of IT services that they require. Examples include (but are not limited to) the Flagstaff Arboretum, the Museum of Northern Arizona, various consultants, and approved vendors.

Collaborative Student Accordion Closed
Members of this affiliation category require access that an NAU student might receive. This affiliation category facilitates collaborative academic work with students who are not formally enrolled at NAU traditionally because they are a member of an outside academic program taking place on the NAU campus or remotely. Examples include (but are not limited to) Cline Library affiliates, the IHD SELECT program, the Park Ranger program, and the Upward Bound program.

Adjunct Accordion Closed
The Adjunct affiliation category is comprised of professors that are generally recognized by the Department Chair and may or may not have an associated salary. Adjunct status requires approval by the Provost’s office. This affiliation category is assigned by department to facilitate administration and assignment of sponsors.

Collaborative Campus Associate Accordion Closed
This affiliation category includes community or fraternal types of organizations hosted on the NAU mountain campus or another NAU location such as NAU Yuma or other statewide offices. These affiliated organizations tend to have a closer working relationship with NAU and typically require more extensive IT services. Examples include (but are not limited to) US Forest Service members, researchers, visiting scholars, auditors, consultants, and certain contracted employees.

Retiree Accordion Closed
The Retiree affiliation category is reserved for faculty or staff who have officially retired from NAU and requested that their access be maintained during retirement. Retiree status is vetted and approved through NAU Human Resources.
This affiliation type can only be submitted by Human Resources after the proper paperwork has been submitted and approved.
Emeritus Accordion Closed
The Emeritus affiliation category is reserved for faculty who have served as an NAU faculty member for at least ten years and are recommended by the Provost to the President. Additional details about Emeritus status can be found on the Office of the Provost website.
This affiliation type can only be submitted by Human Resources after the proper paperwork has been submitted and approved.

All University Sponsored Affiliates with access to University IT Resources are required to participate in Cisco Duo Multifactor Authentication (Two-Step)
#Affiliate Categories with access to University IT Resources are required to take NAU IT Security Awareness training yearly. Failure to pass this required training will result in loss of access.
* All Microsoft 365 applications are limited to a Microsoft A1 Web Access Only license. Desktop application access is not provided by default to any sponsored affiliate.
** Telephony services are unavailable to individuals without a Microsoft A5 license.
*** NAU Parking Passes are available for purchase and are not provided free of charge to any sponsored affiliate.
⚠ Retiree and Emeritus affiliates with the University will need to request a secondary affiliation to obtain Lenel Door access. Door access will not be retained when transitioning to a retired status with the University.
