Overview

ITS provides a way for student employees to access Faculty/Staff resources (computers, shared drives, shared email accounts, etc.) by giving a student one of our two types of student employee accounts. The requirements of the student’s job determine the type of account a student needs. These accounts are not automatically issued and must be requested for a specific need because not every student employee needs one for his or her position. If a student receives a student employee account, it is to be used for the purpose of the student’s employment with NAU only.

Important Information for Supervisors and Student Employees:

  • The student employee is expected to use this account during their employment with NAU for work-related purposes. The student should not use this account for any student-related activities.
  • The supervisor must contact ITS when the student leaves their position to request removal of access to department information.
  • These accounts help departments assign, maintain, and terminate access to resources like computers, shared drives, shared email accounts, etc. with little to no impact on the student’s educational accounts.
  • These accounts are not replacements but additional accounts to accompany the student’s normal account.

Student Employee Account Comparison

There are two main types of accounts available to student employees.

  • Student Employee Group Only
  • Limited Exchange Student Employee

  • The student will use this account to log onto office computers using NAU\[student’s UID].
  • The student’s home drive will be mapped automatically
  • The student may use their account to access the shared drives and other services where access has been granted. Requests to these resources must be done separately via a ServiceNow ticket.

Limited Exchange Student Employee Accordion Closed


  • The student will use this account to log onto office computers using NAU\[student’s UID].
  • The student’s home drive will be mapped automatically
  • The student may use their account to access the shared drives and other services where access has been granted. Requests to these resources must be done separately via a ServiceNow ticket.
  • Access to Microsoft Teams telephony.
  • This account is not meant to be used for email communications outside of NAU’s Exchange environment.
  • The student must check the email in their Limited Exchange account regularly for course-related emails. The student is responsible for forwarding any non-work-related email that they wish to keep to their student NAU Gmail account.
  • Students who are required to send emails out for the job should use a shared mailbox.
  • Limited exchange accounts do not provide a First.Last@nau.edu email address. To request a Full Exchange account, visit our Exchange Account webpage. 

Account Expiration

SEAM accounts do not expire so long as the student is currently employed. Supervisors must submit a ticket to ITS to requesting the removal of department specific access in the event a student transfers to a different department.


Requesting An Account

Please fill out one of these forms and submit them to the ITS Service Desk via ServiceNow or email at ITS-SEAM@nau.edu. Please call the ITS Service Desk at 928-523-3335 with any questions.
