Looking for marketing or communications support at NAU? This guide connects Academic Affairs units with the right resources, teams, and processes to help you plan, create, and execute effective marketing and communications.

Unit-specific support

If your college or unit has dedicated marketing and communications support (e.g., a Communications Manager), please work directly with them on campaigns and requests. This helps ensure alignment with college and university standards, while supporting efficient and coordinated efforts.

Accessibility Accordion Closed

The ​Usable Materials Center (UMC) is a resource for the campus community, supporting NAU’s vision to elevate excellence by providing accessible higher education for all. The UMC provides services to ensure course content, digital documents, and videos are accessible for all students and staff.

Advertising Accordion Closed

Traditional advertising

Traditional advertising refers to non-digital, offline marketing methods used to reach audiences. This includes print (newspapers, magazines, trade publications), broadcast (TV and radio), out-of-home placements (billboards, transit advertising, outdoor signage).

How to request support:

To request support for traditional advertising, please contact NAU’s Brand Management team at BrandMgmt@nau.edu.

Bus shelter advertising (Flagstaff Mountain Campus)

For bus shelter design reviews and approvals, select the Bus shelter poster request option on the Brand and Strategic Communications request form.

Digital advertising

Digital advertising includes any paid or unpaid promotional content delivered through internet-based channels such as websites, apps, and digital displays. Common formats include search engine marketing (paid search), social media advertising, display/banner ads, and video advertising (e.g. YouTube).

How to request support:

Digital advertising opportunities outside of university-level campaigns are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. To explore options or request support, please submit a marketing consultation request through the Academic Affairs Marketing request form.

Banners Accordion Closed

City banners

NAU units should go directly to the City of Flagstaff to plan for reserving/displaying city banners in town to promote NAU events/opportunities that are open to the community.

NAU campus banner reservations (Flagstaff Mountain Campus)

Campus banners can be displayed on structures near both the University Union and the DuBois Center. Reservations are required, and any advertised event must be submitted and approved prior to the banner being hung up.  For reservation details and instructions, visit NAU’s event marketing webpage.

Nackard Pepsi Banners (Flagstaff Mountain Campus)

NAU offers the use of free banners from Nackard Pepsi both on and off campus. You design the banner with their template, and they print them for you. For questions and the banner template, reach out to Madison Clanton at MadisonClanton@nackard.com.

Brand & Strategic Communications

For updates to existing materials or support developing new collateral, submit a request through the Brand and Strategic Communications request form and select “Project request – content development and design.” All requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The VisualDESIGNLab

The VisualDESIGNLab (VDL) is a student-run design studio within NAU’s School of Communication. Students in the Visual Communication program collaborate with university and community partners to create impactful design solutions and enhance organizational branding. To request photography support, please submit a photo/video shoot request through the SEM request form. All requests are reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis.

Cline Library Photography Studio

The Cline Library Photography Studio allows NAU students, faculty, and staff to take professional, studio-quality photos using multi-function lighting and equipment setup (camera not included). Individual students or groups of up to 8 people can shoot portrait or still life photography using one of our two lighting stations.

Cline Library Production Studios

The Cline Library’s three production studios offer specialized hardware and software for recording and editing multimedia projects.

These studios are ideal for:

  • Recording audio for interviews
  • Podcasts or voiceovers
  • Editing multimedia projects with advanced software

Please note that these studios should not be used for general study.

Branded promotional items must follow NAU’s Trademarks and Licensing guidelines to ensure proper logo use and brand consistency. More information and step-by-step guidance is available on the University Trademarks and Licensing website.

To order promotional materials, you must work with an NAU-approved licensed vendor. View the full list of approved vendors on the Licensed Vendors webpage.

For step-by-step instructions on obtaining branded merchandise, including design approvals and ordering requirements, visit the University Trademarks and Licensing website and select the resource that best fits your needs:

Permanent signage

To request updates to permanent interior or exterior signage on campus, submit either a work order or a Project Initiation request through the Facility Services website

  • Work orders are appropriate for minor updates (e.g., name changes on door plates or directory signs).
  • Project Initiation requests should be used for larger or more complex signage updates.
Temporary signage

Exterior temporary signage is managed by the Landscape/Exterior Space Review Team (LRT). To request temporary signage on campus, submit the Space Request Form available on the Space Management webpage.

Facility Services manages the process from start to finish and will coordinate any required design review and approvals with the appropriate NAU teams.

Permitted types of exterior temporary signage include:
  • Temporary wayfinding signage
  • Building-mounted wall banners
  • On-campus event banners
  • Inserts on trash cans and recycling containers
  • Construction, parking, road or sidewalk closure signage
  • Jobsite signage and site wraps
  • Adhesive signage on buildings, windows, sidewalks or site features

  • For updates or content changes to in.nau.edu or legacy.nau.edu pages, contact your department’s site steward.
  • If your department does not have a site steward, submit a website support request through the Academic Affairs Marketing request form.*
nau.edu
  • For updates to nau.edu pages —including college, school, or department pages, as well as accreditation content—submit a request through SEM’s website feedback form.* 
Degree Search program pages
  • Submit requests or questions related to Degree Search (degree-search.nau.edu) as a website support request through the Academic Affairs Marketing request form.*
  • At this time, updates are limited to the “About this program” section.
Academic catalog content
  • Updates to the academic catalog (catalog.nau.edu) are managed by the Office of Curriculum and Assessment.
  • Submit requests directly to the Curriculum & Assessment team.
NAU directory

The NAU directory (directory.nau.edu) includes a combination of automated Human Resources data and manually editable information. Because content is managed across systems, it may not always be clear what can be updated directly.

ServiceNow resources (NAU login required) provide guidance on:

  • How and where to update public profile details
  • How to request a change to personnel or department information

For department-level directory updates, contact your department’s directory maintainer. For additional guidance, visit the Directory Maintainer webpage.

* Submitting requests through these channels helps ensure they are routed correctly and addressed in a timely manner. If multiple updates are needed to resolve a single issue, include them in one clearly organized request. Unrelated requests should be submitted as separate tickets.

WordPress access

NAU uses WordPress to manage nau.edu and in.nau.edu websites. To learn more and request access, Website Support Training webpage. NAU’s WordPress training includes self-paced, in-house videos tailored to the university’s specific WordPress environment and standards.

Getting started:
  • Submit a Sandbox site request through ServiceNow (must be submitted by your supervisor).
  • Complete the required self-paced training and Sandbox activities.
Oasis workflow

Oasis (Oasis Workflow) is a collaborative tool used to submit web edits and new pages for review prior to publication on in.nau.edu sites. It was previously available only on sites using the Gutenberg theme.

Oasis is now installed across all Academic Affairs Marketing–supported sites (including both Enterprise and Gutenberg themes) but is not yet active. Activation is planned in the near future, and training will be provided to Academic Affairs WordPress users.

In the meantime, please ensure all web updates follow NAU web standards and are reviewed carefully prior to publishing. In the meantime, please be diligent with your web edits, ensuring adherence to NAU web standards.
