Leadership at NAU

Students gather at a volunteer event

NAU is determined to provide opportunities for each student to engage, connect, learn, and develop their unique leadership style. The Office of Leadership and Engagement facilitates distinctive programs such as the EDGE Leadership Experience, Presidential Leadership Fellows, Student Leadership Conference, and many more to help Lumberjacks become the leaders they strive to be during their college journey and beyond.

Our programs implement different models of leadership, adaptable to our diverse student population. A common approach we utilize is the Kouzes & Posner model, which consists of five practices of Exemplary Leadership:

  • Model the Way
  • Inspire a Shared Vision
  • Challenge the Process
  • Enable Others to Act
  • Encourage the Heart

By diving into these, we empower every Lumberjack to identify as a leader and work toward building a brighter future.

Learn more about each program below and start on your journey of becoming a leader today!

EDGE Leadership Experience Accordion Closed

The Edge Leadership Experience provides a unique opportunity for students to learn and practice leadership skills while transitioning into the college environment.

EDGE brings together incoming first-year students through team building, connecting with peers, diversity and inclusion conversations, and so much more.

The program strives to support students in claiming, “I am a leader.”

Visit nau.edu/EDGE for more information.

Presidential Leadership Fellows Accordion Closed

The Presidential Leadership Fellows (PLF) is aimed to strengthen sophomores’ and juniors’ leadership styles as they learn more about who they are as leaders.

PLF focuses on unique areas of leadership, including but not limited to Modeling the Way, Inspiring a Shared Vision, Challenging the Process, Enabling Others to Act, and Encouraging the Heart.

A common thread throughout the program is the need to discuss and reflect upon diversity, inclusion, equity, and Social Justice, aiming towards a more equitable world.

Our objective is for students to leave each session empowered to make positive changes, influence others, and create inclusive and equitable experiences for all.

Visit nau.edu/plf for more information.
