A chance to strengthen the leader within you
The Black Leadership Summit provides students, faculty, and staff with the opportunity to explore more about true leadership and celebrate Black joy. The summit will provide a breakout guest speaker series, where they will dive into their leadership style and journey. Free food will be provided!
We look forward to connecting with all students and diving into leadership.

Goals
- Leadership – Build a variety of leadership skills through attending the different breakout guest speaker series hosted by NAU and Flagstaff Community members
- Identity – Explore multiple intersecting identities through the lens of Black Joy to help create and promote inclusive environments
- Community – Expand sense of belonging through meaningful individual and group interactions composed of fellow peers, faculty, staff, allies, and community members

- 1:10pm – Participants get Lunch
- 1:30pm – Event Speaker / Lunch

Keynote speaker – Dr. Kevin Wright
Kevin was raised in the Historic Westside of Las Vegas, NV. With the love and labor of multiple Black womxn, his upbringing is rooted in Louisiana southern values. Born from a lineage of African, Creole, and Indigenous ancestry, Dr. Wright currently serves as a Senior Racial Equity Facilitator and Consultant. Kevin is responsible for raising consciousness, building skills and developing strategies to socialize and operationalize equity efforts throughout organizations. Wright’s commitment to racial justice, equity, and inclusion is rooted in his approach with shifting cultures and processes one system at a time to advocate for individuals with historically marginalized identities.
Dr. Wright, a TRIO alum, is also an award-winning educator, best-selling author, and notable public speaker who specializes in the areas of culturally responsive leadership development, personal and professional transformation, and social justice education. Dr. Wright has reached over 100,000 learners from institutions and companies across 5 continents, and has produced scholarship on various topics while serving as an educational consultant. As an advocate for equity and liberation, Dr. Wright also serves as a Certified Financial Education Instructor and Financial Literacy Advocate to support people from historically marginalized backgrounds reframe their relationship to money while creating intergenerational wealth.
He was also named a For the Culture honoree by Forbes, a #BetterMoneyHabits 50 Under 50k honoree by Bank of America and Buzzfeed, and has been recognized by two former U.S. Presidents for his commitment to service and civic engagement. Kevin earned a bachelor’s in Business Communications with a minor in Sociology from Northern Arizona University, a master’s in Student Affairs Administration from Lewis & Clark College, and a doctorate of education in Organizational Leadership from Northcentral University.
Expectations for all participants
NAU’s Black Leadership Summit is free to all NAU Students, Faculty, and Staff. We expect all participants to attend for the entirety of the program. This active participation allows us to keep this important experience free to all students.
