Academic Advisement Reports
For information about Academic Advisement Reports for students, please visit our page in the “Student Resources” section.
Academic Advisement Reports (AARs) streamline NAU’s graduation checkout process and reduce the workload for faculty and staff in academic units who review and approve graduation applications. More importantly, they help provide a consistent approach to interpreting academic requirements, thus helping students complete their academic goals in a timely fashion.
If you need access to Academic Advisement Reports and have an advising job title or are a faculty member currently teaching a class, make sure you have completed NAU’s FERPA tutorial. If you don’t fall into either of these categories but still advise students, submit a LOUIE security request form asking for the NAU_SR Student Records Viewer role or an advisor security role, as appropriate. Please review our Advisor Center documentation for how to access AARs in LOUIE self service.
If you have questions regarding your departmental plan setup within Academic Advisement Reports, please feel free to contact us.
How to Use
The Academic Advisement Report is an excellent tool to use. It shows what requirements students need to complete. Used in conjunction with Progression Plans, a student can develop a schedule that can most efficiently meet his or her academic goals. You can request that your advisees print and review their Academic Advisement Reports ahead of time, then bring the reports to an advising session with any questions that arise from their review.
Using the “What-If” feature, Academic Advisement Reports can compare a student’s current academic record to the requirements for a different plan (major, minor or certificate) or sub-plan (emphasis). The resulting report shows how existing coursework would fit with those specific requirements.
For more complete user guides and examples of how to use Academic Advisement Reports, please refer to our online documentation.
Although Academic Advisement Reports are a great self-service tool to plan student academic goals, it is important to note that they may not be 100% accurate every time, given the variability inherent to our curriculum and student circumstances (undeclared majors, transfer students, individualized plans, etc). If any discrepancies are uncovered or questions arise, students should be encouraged to seek help from an advisor.
We very much welcome and appreciate any and all feedback from advisors and academic departments about their Academic Advisement Report setup. With your input, we can hone the powerful Academic Advisement Report tool to provide students and advisors with quality, accurate assessments of students’ progress towards graduation.
