Frequently Asked Questions

Arizona Residency for Tuition Purposes

General Information

Arizona’s public universities are supported by Arizona taxpayers; the lower resident tuition rate reflects their contributions. The Residency Office is required to follow Arizona Board of Regents Policy, which is state law.

Non-resident students may petition for reclassification. Once the application has determined a student to be a non-resident, the only way to change your residency designation is to pursue one of the pathways listed below. To find which pathway is the best match, complete the residency navigator. Cases are individually reviewed. There are no financial hardship exceptions.

If you wish to discuss your circumstances or eligibility, contact our office.
