Petitions, Affidavits & Deadlines

Below are the available forms to complete to become an Arizona resident for tuition purposes. Read the instructions carefully before completing a petition or affidavit.

These steps are intended to guide you through this process; however, it would be impossible to cover everything you might need to know. Our advice to all students is to do their own research on residency requirements and ask questions before submitting a petition or affidavit.

Steps to Submitting a Petition or Affidavit:

  1. Be admitted to NAU.
  2. If you have a U.S. visa, please review the visa information to see if you are eligible for the Arizona resident tuition rate.
  3. Complete the residency navigator to see if there is a petition or affidavit that works for you. Find the petition or affidavit you were matched with. Read the instructions and confirm you meet the criteria listed.
  4. Find the next upcoming deadline and have your petition or affidavit submitted by that date. Residency applications cannot be accepted after the deadline for the semester.
  5. Download and complete the form that works best for you.
    • Make copies of your documents and do not submit any originals as your documents need to be kept on file and will not be returned to you.
    • Have your form notarized if applicable.
    • If there is any documentation that is requested of you that you cannot provide, please explain in the “missing documentation explanation” section.
    • Contact the residency office if you have any questions.
  6. Submit a paper copy of these documents in person to the Flagstaff Student Service Center or by mail to the address below. Email submissions are not accepted.
