Online Tools and Programs Accordion Closed
Whether you’re looking for extra credit options, potential assignments for your curriculum, or referrals to support student wellness – Health Promotion has you covered. Check out the following online programs you can utilize in your courses and/or share with your students.
SEXUAL HEALTH MODULE ~30 mins, Provides the basics on STIs, contraception, communication, and consent in this self-paced, online module. https://in.nau.edu/campus-health-services/sexual-health-programs/
CANNABIS EDUCATION MODULE ~45 mins, Explores the science behind cannabis use, its impacts, harm reduction, and the state of weed in AZ and at NAU. https://qualtrics.nau.edu/jfe/form/SV_b9gfApnClIkOUJ0
SCREENU ~10-15 mins, Students can take anonymous screenings to assess their risk level based on cannabis, alcohol, or prescription drug use. Students will receive a certificate of completion without results listed. Nau.edu/screenu
VECTOR ONGOING ~1 hour, For second year and beyond. Refresh your knowledge on alcohol harm reduction or the core aspects of healthy relationships and violence prevention on college campuses. Nau.edu/vector Login to your account. At the bottom of the page select additional trainings and search for either AlcoholEDU Ongoing or SAP Ongoing!
LIVE WELL NAU ASSESSMENT ~15 mins, Students complete an anonymous assessment to learn how well they’re doing in the eight dimensions of wellness. Students can then explore curated local resources to help them improve their holistic wellness. Nau.edu/livewell

• Network of Care: Become a part of the Network of Care at NAU! Wellness is a foundational learning outcome for students at NAU. Join Health Promotion in this 90-minute session where we will dive into the data on what is impacting our students here at NAU, and how you can use Motivational Interviewing to screen and connect students with the appropriate support, no matter your role. What to Know Accordion Closed
Whether it’s to include in your syllabus, work into a lecture, or keep in your back pocket for a student in need, here are some key points/statements on wellness issues that impact our Lumberjacks at NAU.
Alcohol – 80% of NAU students that drink don’t binge drink – 29% don’t drink at all! (ACHA-NCHA, 2023)
- Not all students drink, and most do it responsibly.
- Alcohol misuse can impact mental health, physical health, and academic success.
- Check out harm reduction strategies like pacing drinks and staying in low-risk guidelines and find what works for you!

Sleep – 24% of NAU students report sleep difficulties impacting their academics (ACHA-NCHA, 2023).
- Sleep is critical to mental health and wellness.
- It’s important to strive for 7-9 hours of sleep a night, most nights.
- Close down all electronics one hour before sleep.

Resilience and Stress – 40% of NAU students report stress negatively impacted their academics (ACHA-NCHA, 2023)
- Stress can impact not only mental health, but physical health too.
- Building resilience ahead of time helps people manage stress in healthier ways and better deal with adversity.

Cannabis – 81% of NAU students don’t use cannabis, and most that do don’t use it regularly (ACHA-NCHA, 2021).
- Cannabis and mental health? Frequent cannabis use can impact memory and has been tied to increase anxiety and depression.
- If you choose to use, be sure to limit how often you use (once a week or less) and start with lower doses of THC.
- Remember cannabis use/possession is prohibited on the NAU campus.

Physical Wellness – Over half of NAU students experience some form of food insecurity (ACHA-NCHA, 2023).
- NAU students frequently rate physical activity among their top concerns.
- NAU has resources to help students get food and other basic needs.
- Being physically active in a way that works for you is a great way to support mental health, sleep hygiene and more.
- Strive for 30 minutes of movement most days, based on your ability and interests.
- Your physical wellbeing is important to your success as a student.
