LouieCare

LouieCare is designed for use at Northern Arizona University Campus Health Services and does NOT replace a health insurance plan. It ensures easy access to on-campus health care by eliminating deductibles, filing claims, and other hassles with your insurance carrier.  LouieCare is NOT a health insurance plan and is NOT an ACA approved health insurance plan.

For less than many private insurance plans’ annual deductible, you can purchase LouieCare for $175 per semester. This plan covers many, but not all, services offered through Medical Services with a small co-pay. This plan will also cover individual counseling appointments at CHS’s Counseling Services. Although the plan is open all year round to enroll, it must be paid for in full in order for the plan to be in effect. Once selected, coverage will remain in effect for the remainder of the semester and cannot be canceled.

Eligibility for Louie Care

Students must be registered for 1 credit hour at NAU and have paid the Health and Wellness fee to purchase Louie Care. Students can select Louie Care for the full year if they are taking classes (1 Credit hour) over the summer.

Costs breakdown

Overall plan prices can vary, depending on how you want to pay:

• per fall, spring, or summer semester: $175

Participants in LouieCare will pay a $15 co-pay for primary office visit fees and a $15 co-pay for in-house lab if needed. These $15 fees apply for any of the following services:

• primary care or specialty visits
• individual counseling visits
• well-woman services, including pap smears and screening tests
• labs prescribed, performed at Campus Health Services Laboratory, and managed by Medical Services providers. These labs include:
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Hemogram (CBC without automated differential)
  • Strep Complete (Molecular)
  • Rapid Strep
  • HSV/VZV (Molecular)
  • Mononucleosis
  • Urine and Serum hCG (pregnancy)
  • Occult Blood
  • KOH Prep
  • Whole Blood Glucose
  • Influenza A/B Screen
  • Wet Mounts
  • Urinalysis
  • PAP’s
  • In-house COVID testing

Exclusions

The below list is not an inclusive list, other services may not be included in LouieCare.  When in doubt, please contact Campus Health Services prior to any services.

• all prescriptions
• services performed outside of Campus Health Services
• most immunizations (Flu shot, TB tests, and Tetanus shot are covered)
• physical therapy
• labs ordered by an outside provider
• labs sent to an outside Laboratory such as Sonora Quest or Lab Corp (ie: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, blood typing and lipid panels)
• COVID Monovalent Vaccine

• log on to LOUIE and click on “Purchase Student Health Plan/Insurance” on the self service page
