Teaching & Learning Center Resources for New Faculty

Productive Beginnings: Resources for Your First Year Accordion Closed

  • The Teaching and Learning Center offers Productive Beginnings: Resources for Your First Year, a monthly series designed to assist new faculty throughout their first year at NAU. This series is by invitation only and is designed for faculty members new to teaching at NAU. Topics vary each month, and all new faculty will be automatically enrolled in the program.
  • Productive Beginnings will be held on the following Fridays from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. and offered in person and online.
  • Spring 2026 Dates: 1/23, 2/20, 3/20 & 4/17

Faculty Mentor Program Accordion Closed

This optional program aims to pair new faculty members with current NAU faculty members for a year-long relationship. The goals of the program are to promote collegiality and get the new faculty member oriented to the NAU landscape. We expect that this mentor is just one of several on the new faculty member’s mentorship team. Matches are finalized by mid-September. Both mentor and mentee receive the Little Elden dining plan to support their monthly meetups.  Mentoring dyads are typically from different colleges and always from different departments. Read more and apply for a mentor.

The FAAR Open Labs are intended to help new faculty prepare for their January review and to support the best practice of updating their FAAR at least at the end of each term. As part of the facilitation, we encourage new faculty to seek out guidance from their academic home for local guidelines while supporting the more general aspects of the platform. FAAR Open Labs are held in December and May.
