Apply for graduation
Graduation steps
You should apply for graduation at least one term/semester prior to your last term/semester to guarantee your name is in the Commencement Booklet.
- Enroll in your remaining courses completing your degree requirements.
- Check your Academic Advisement Report (AAR) in LOUIE:
- If fully collapsed and all requirements are satisfied move to step 3.
- If it is not fully collapsed, requirements remain unsatisfied, and/or you would like to participate in the upcoming Commencement Ceremony and have your name printed in the Commencement Booklet, check the Commencement Booklet deadline and move to step 3 and schedule an appointment with your academic advisor.
- Apply for Graduation:
- Choose the Graduation Term that reflects the last term of your enrollment that completes your NAU degree requirements. Check here for Graduation deadlines.
- Verify the name that prints on your diploma.
- If you change your name within the online application this does not change your legal name or the name listed on your official transcripts.
- If you need to make a legal name change and/or need the name on your official transcript and diploma to be an exact match, you will need to file a name change formwith the Office of the Registrar before your degree conferral date.
- Changes submitted by the application deadline will be reflected in the commencement program. If submitted after the deadline, changes will only be reflected on your diploma.
- You will receive an email confirming you have applied for graduation.
- Verify the diploma address after you apply for graduation.
- If your diploma address is incorrect please update the Diploma address in LOUIE to a residence that is permanent and valid for 6 months after graduation.
- A $35.00 graduation fee will be charged for each undergraduate degree and/or certificate. A $50 graduation fee will be charged for each graduate degree and/or certificate. Graduation fees are charged to your LOUIE Student Center once you have applied.
- Check your email and Monitor your Academic Advisement Report (AAR) to ensure you are meeting the requirements to graduate:
- The first Monday of every month an email is sent to all students without a fulfilled AAR. Please check for this email and check your AAR accordingly.
- All degree requirements must be met with completed coursework and reflected in your AAR by graduation term close.
- You should monitor your Academic Advisement Report and NAU email account until your degree is posted to your transcript in LOUIE and your diploma has been received in the mail.
- If you have any outstanding transfer coursework or degrees:
- Send your official transcripts to NAU Admissions as soon as your grades post to your transfer institution’s transcript.
- NAU only accepts courses in which grades of a “C” or better are earned.
- Check your NAU email account until your degree posts to your Unofficial Transcripts in LOUIE and you receive your diploma in the mail:
- Your degree must post with an award date to your Unofficial Transcript in LOUIE. If this does not occur a degree has not posted.
- If you do not receive a diploma in the mail, you may have entered the incorrect address for your diploma mailing address.
- Your Academic Advisor may communicate with you about missing graduation requirements.
- If the Registrar’s Office is not able to award a degree you will receive an email from us in the following intervals:
- About 2 weeks after Commencement.
- After graduation term close.
- Your MyNau.edu student portal has a graduation tab that will also display the following information about your graduation status:
- Graduation status.
- Diploma name.
- Diploma address.
- Instructions on how to make changes to the above bullets.
