Graduation Definition:
The process of confirming a student has met all their degree requirements, in which a degree is posted to their transcript and a diploma is earned.
Commencement Ceremony Definition:
The ceremony to celebrate academic accomplishments for students who plan on graduating.
Please note, participating in Commencement does not guarantee graduation.
College: Please look up your college on the commencement webpage for instructions about where to report for the Commencement Ceremony. If you have more than one college listed then choose the college you would like to walk with in for the Commencement Ceremony.
Diploma mailing address: If you need your diploma mailed to a different address then you must update your diploma address. This address can be added or updated in your LOUIE Student Center.
Diploma Name: If your name is misspelled or if you would like your name in a different format, you will need to file a Name Change form with the Office of the Registrar before your degree conferral date. Changes submitted by the application deadline will be reflected in the commencement program. If submitted after the deadline, changes will only be reflected on your diploma.
Undergraduate Students: Accordion Closed
- Students earning a Baccalaureate degree or Undergraduate Certificate.

Status:
- Eligible: You have enough units to apply for graduation. Before applying please check with your advisor to be sure you are ready for graduation. This does not mean you have met the requirements for graduation.
- Applied: You have applied for graduation. This status does not change until you are either awarded a degree or denied graduation. You should monitor your Academic Advisement Report (AAR) to access your progress to graduation.
Additional Graduation Statuses:
- Pending: You have applied for graduation online, however you must work with your advisor to complete an additional Graduation Requirements Checklist, which your advisor will send to the Office of the Registrar.
- In review: You have submitted your Graduation Requirements Checklist
Graduation Term: This is your final term at NAU. You cannot enroll after this term unless you reapply to NAU or you have decided you will not be graduating and then you need to change your graduation term by contacting Graduation@nau.edu
Graduate Students: Accordion Closed
- Students earning a Master, Doctoral degree or a Graduate Certificate.
- Degree Posting processed by the Graduate College
Graduation Status:
- Eligible: Minimum amount of credits required for graduation have been passed or are in progress (Certificate= 1 credit, Master’s= 24 credits, Doctoral= 48 credits) and a Program of Study has been uploaded into the student’s milestones.
- Applied: A graduation application has been submitted for the specific program. The application has not yet been reviewed by the Graduate College.
- Pending: The graduation application has been pre-approved pending the finalization of grades for the semester. Student has passed and enrolled in all required coursework for the program.
- In Review: Application is missing information (signatures, substitutions, extension of time, transfer credit, etc.) Department and/or student will be notified.
Graduation Term:
This is your final term at NAU. You cannot enroll in any course after this term. If you do not intend to graduate during the term listed, contact GradGraduation@nau.edu to request the application be withdrawn.
To begin a new program, you must apply to the Graduate College for admissions (www.nau.edu/graduateapply).
