FERPA training
Are you a new faculty or staff member of NAU? Are you looking for a brush-up course on the FERPA training? The following tutorials provide the training necessary for the protection of student information. There is additional information provided by the Office of the Registrar.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 provides two main functions, just at the title implies:
- To grant students rights regarding information that universities and colleges maintain about them, and
- To preserve the privacy of that information.
First, let’s consider a few important points about students’ and families’ rights. Click on the links below if you’d like to learn more.
- Students have the right to inspect and review their education records.
- Students have the right to request an amendment to or challenge the accuracy of their education records.
- Students have the right to prevent unauthorized disclosure of education records.
- Students have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education about a violation of FERPA.
- Students have the right to waive the above rights in writing
