What is Open Enrollment?

Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to review and update your benefits to ensure they meet your needs – and those of your family.

Key Dates

  • Open Enrollment Begins: Oct 20th
  • Deadline to make changes: Nov 7th
  • Effective date of changes: Jan 1st

You do not need to act this year unless you want to make changes to your benefits or enroll in a healthcare or dependent care flexible spending account for 2026.

How to make changes to your benefits

When you’re ready, you will make changes to your benefits in Employee Self-Service through LOUIE – HR .

  1. Sign on to LOUIE – HR with your NAU credentials.
  2. On the HR Home Page, select the ‘Benefits’ Tile.
  3. Select’ Benefits Enrollment’.
  4. Click ‘Select’ for the event displayed.
  5. Click ‘Edit’ on each benefit to update your election. Your per pay period cost will be listed for each benefit.
  6. Click ‘Save and Continue’ when your enrollment is completed.
  7. Authorize your enrollments by clicking ‘Submit’.

General

What is Open Enrollment? Accordion Closed

Open Enrollment is your yearly opportunity to change your benefit selections without experiencing a Qualified Life Event (QLE), such as the birth of a child or marriage.

When is Open Enrollment? Accordion Closed

Open Enrollment runs from October 20th to November 7th, with changes taking effect on January 1, 2026.

Can I change my benefits outside of Open Enrollment? Accordion Closed

You can only change your benefits outside of Open Enrollment if you experience a Qualified Life Event (QLE) such as the birth of a child or marriage.

If you experience a QLE during the year, be sure to contact Human Resources within 31 days of the event or you will need to wait until the next Open Enrollment period to make changes to your benefits.

Changes for 2026

Are there any plan changes? Accordion Closed

This year there are several to your benefits.    Learn about the changes to your benefits by reviewing the What’s Changing.

Are there any provider changes? Accordion Closed

Yes. The Hartford will be the new provider for the The State of AZ Life and Disability Plans.

Inspira is replacing Optum Bank as the new health care savings account administrator for the State of AZ HDHP\HSA. There is an optional one-time bulk transfer from Optum to Inspria.  Employees will be required to provide consent for transfer or to decline it via an online form.

The provider for the NAU Health Care Savings Account will remain Health Equity.

Are deductions from my paycheck going to change? Accordion Closed

Yes some premiums are increasing an others are decreasing. Review all the 2026 Voluntary Premiums 

NAU PPO

Employee premiums will increase between $15.32 and $41.37 per pay period depending on the coverage level elected.

Below are the new employee premiums effective 01/01/2026.

  • $75.10 – Employee Only
  • $194.86 – Employee + Adult
  • $139.19 – Employee + Child
  • $282.81 – Family

Employee Premiums for Avesis Vision are also increasing

  • $1.83 – Employee Only
  • $6.12 – Employee + Adult
  • $6.03 – Employee + Child
  • $7.61 – Family

Employee Premiums for the following plan are decreasing

  • State of AZ Supplemental Life
  • State of AZ Short Term Disability
  • NAU Unum Short Term Disability

Employee premiums for all the other plans will remain the same.

Less than 12-month employees

Remember if you work less than a 12-months and are paid over your contract period you will begin making ‘Pre-payments’ for your benefits during your off-contract period in January.

Visit Paying for Your Coverage for more information including your Pre-payment premiums effective with the pay you will receive on 01/10/2025.


Enrollment

Do I need to re-enroll in benefits this year? Accordion Closed

You do not need to re-enroll this year unless you want to make changes to your benefits or enroll in a Health Care or Dependent\Day Care Care Flexible Spending Account for 2026. 

What happens if I do not re-enroll in benefits during Open Enrollment? Accordion Closed

If you do not make changes to your benefits during Open Enrollment your current benefit selections will carry over to 2026.  The one exception is Flexible Spending Accounts – to participate in a Health Care or Dependent\Day Care Flexible Spending Account for 2026 you must enroll during Open Enrollment.

Note:  If you’re currently enrolled in State of AZ TCP and don’t change plans during open enrollment, you’ll be automatically moved to the new State of AZ PPO plan.

What if I do not want to make any changes? Accordion Closed

If you do not make changes to your benefits your current benefit selections will carry over to 2026.  The one exception is Flexible Spending Accounts – to participate in a Health Care or Dependent\Day Care Care Flexible Spending Account for 2026 you must make an election during Open Enrollment.

Note:  If you’re currently enrolled in State of AZ TCP and don’t change plans during open enrollment, you’ll be automatically moved to the new State of AZ PPO plan.

When are my benefit changes effective? Accordion Closed

Any changes you make to your benefits during Open Enrollment will be effective January 1, 2026.

How do I review my current elections, covered dependents and beneficiaries? Accordion Closed

You can verify your current benefits in Employee Self – Service through LOUIE – HR:

  • Sign on to LOUIE – HR with your NAU credentials.
  • Click on the ‘Benefits’ tile
  • Select Benefits Summary
  • Click Go, and a summary of your benefit enrollments will be displayed.

To view your covered dependents and beneficiary records:

  • Sign on to LOUIE – HR with your NAU credentials.
  • Click on the ‘Benefits’ tile.
  • Select Dependent/Beneficiary Info.
  • Click Dependent/Beneficiary Summary to view the information on your dependents\beneficiaries.
  • Click Dependent/Beneficiary Summary to view plans for your dependents\beneficiaries.

How do I make changes to my benefit selections? Accordion Closed

You will make your changes in Employee Self – Service through LOUIE – HR.

  • Sign on to LOUIE – HR with your NAU credentials.
  • Click on the ‘Benefits’ tile
  • Select ‘Benefits Enrollment’ and then click on ‘Select’.
  • Click ‘Edit’ next to the benefit you want to change.
  • Click ‘Save and Continue’ after you make your changes.

How do I review my finalized Open Enrollment elections? Accordion Closed

You will receive an email confirming your benefit enrollments have been submitted.

THE NEXT DAY you may view your new elections in Employee Self-Service through the LOUIE – HR.

  • Sign on to h LOUIE – HR using your NAU credentials.
  • On the Home Page, select the ‘Benefits’ tile.
  • Select Benefits Summary.
  • Change the “as of date” to 01/01/26 and click Go.
  • A summary of your benefit enrollments will be displayed.

What is a Benefit Confirmation Statement? Accordion Closed

After Open Enrollment is closed, Human Resources will send, to your NAU email, a Benefit Confirmation Statement containing your 2026 plan elections.    It is important to review this document and notify Human Resources immediately if your Confirmation Statement has an error and needs further attention.
