The Parking Spot: NAU Transit Services News

The Parking Spot Newsletter

Who are we?

University Transit Services manages parking, shuttle, fleet, and alternative transit services at NAU.

We offer students, staff, and visitors information about transit on and off campus.

The cost of parking

Paying for parking can be a frustrating expense; however, much like many university campuses, it is essential to ensure NAU’s campus is maintained properly.

Follow your money

Revenue from parking permits and fees helps pay for expenses like parking lot maintenance, parking garage construction loan/debt payments, and personnel expenses.

We invest more than $60K annually to support the ecoPASS program providing no-fee city-bus passes to employees for all city bus services.

The cost of maintenance

With the abundance of snow in Flagstaff, maintenance of parking lots and garages is required more often, which means higher annual operating costs.

Many essential repairs exceed our yearly budget, so we choose to distribute these repairs over several years to minimize raising parking permit fees.

Event-based parking fees

We are proud to be part of the Flagstaff community and encourage local participation in events and programs on campus.

While we work to limit parking costs/fees for the community, we still need to recover costs for parking maintenance and operations.

NAU supports community events

Parking fees are necessary for on-campus community events, but we offer complimentary parking whenever possible at NAU.

Complimentary parking is provided for:

  • all area high school graduations held on campus.
  • all area high school football games on campus.
  • the College of Arts and Letters Film Series.
