Health Promotion has a number of ways to get involved with our office. Keep reading about the different opportunities and how to apply.
Student organizations
Volunteer in one of our three organizations in Health Promotion. Volunteers receive a number of perks for their time, including resume building, enjoying a work space in HLC, helping others, developing leadership skills, and making a difference on campus!

College Health Education Club Accordion Open
The College Health Education Club (CHEC) is a group of students interested in teaching their peers about college health issues. All members complete a two day training to become peer health educators, learning about relevant college health issues and best practices to support their fellow students.
CHEC Peer Educator responsibilities include:
- Attending weekly meetings to stay up to date on relevant health topics
- Giving presentations on a variety of health topics
- Providing health information tables at partner events on campus
- Planning and attending various health events throughout the year
- Responding to the Ask the Health Nuts online health advice column
- Volunteering in the Health Promotion office
To join CHEC, fill out the interest form. The CHEC training is offered once a semester, though we accept applications year round. Dates and times can be found on our event calendar.
Stressbusters Accordion Closed
Stressbusters are trained to give free 5 minute backrubs and wellness advice. Stressbusters calm and connect with hundreds of NAU students each year! These 5 minute backrubs can decrease stress, loneliness, and sadness. Stressbusters hold an event at least once per week, in different locations across campus.
To become a Stressbuster, fill out the application found on the Stressbuster website. The Stressbusters training is offered once a semester, though we accept applications year round. Dates and times can be found on our event calendar.
Student Health Advocacy Committee Accordion Closed
The Student Health Advocacy Committee (SHAC) acts as a two-way liaison between administration and the students regarding health care issues. SHAC also acts as an advocating body for student wellness and promotes a healthy lifestyle on campus.
SHAC member responsibilities include:
- Attending weekly SHAC meetings
- Planning and attending various health events throughout the year
- Participating in committee work and meetings
- Managing health marketing materials
- Advocating for health policy change with Campus Health Services Administration
- Creating and give health presentations
- Conduct health related surveys or interviews with other students
- Representing Campus Health Services within the general student body
- Communicating with the group, your committees and adviser
- Being ethical and responsible in all SHAC endeavors

Internships
Health Promotion offers unpaid internships for students looking to gain public health experience and knowledge. If you are interested in an internship, return this completed Intern Application, along with your resume and cover letter to Melissa Griffin.

Health Promotion has 2 Graduate Assistantship positions. Not only do these positions offer the opportunity to gain experience in a field that you are passionate about, but they also include a tuition waiver, health insurance, and a stipend.
