In-State Tuition/Yellow Ribbon Program
In-State Tuition Programs for Military-Connected Students
If you are a non-resident student or in the Western Undergraduate Exchange program (WUE), there are a few options you may be eligible for to obtain the in-state tuition rate as a military-connected student. If you are unsure of your residency status, please call 928-523-8387.
Northern Arizona University offers in-state tuition to honorably-discharged veterans who intend to become Arizona residents. Use of VA Educational benefits is not a factor for this benefit.
The In-State Tuition/Yellow Ribbon Form must be completed as soon as the student is physically living in the state of Arizona, not before, please complete the form before the add/drop date of the given term.
If you are not living in the state of Arizona or if you do not meet the criteria, you may still be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program. If you are a fully online student, you will be charged one rate of tuition regardless of your state of residence.
Yellow Ribbon Eligibility criteria
The Yellow Ribbon Program at NAU is used to pay for higher non-resident tuition, not covered by the Post 9/11 GI Bill, for students who do not meet the qualifications for the Choice Act (section 702). Only CH. 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill® students, at 100% eligibility, qualify for the Yellow Ribbon program; this includes dependents using transferred CH. 33 benefits, or Fry Scholarship recipients. To verify eligibility please review your Certificate of Eligibility.
Yellow Ribbon Funds are only available to students who have enough benefit time remaining to cover the entire term. Eligibility for the program is re-evaluated each term.
Note: You must complete your citizenship verification at nau.edu/verify before you proceed with the residency form.
To determine eligibility, please complete the In-State Tuition/Yellow Ribbon Form.
Military Connected Dependents and Families
Military dependent students utilizing CH. 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill, or Fry Scholarship can qualify for immediate reclassification to the in-state tuition rate under the Choice Act (section 702), or could be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program depending on eligibility percentage. Students using Ch. 35 Dependent Educational Assistance (DEA) DO NOT qualify for any residency status exemptions.
