In-state tuition and Yellow Ribbon programs
In-state tuition programs for military-connected students at NAU
If you are a non-resident student or in the Western Undergraduate Exchange program (WUE), you may qualify for NAU’s in-state tuition rate as a military-connected student. If you are unsure of your residency status, please call 928-523-8387.
Northern Arizona University offers in-state tuition to honorably-discharged veterans who intend to become Arizona residents. The use of VA educational benefits is not a factor for this benefit.
The in-state tuition/Yellow Ribbon form must be completed as soon as the student is physically living in the state of Arizona. Please complete the form before the add/drop date of the given term.
If you do not live in Arizona or if you do not meet the criteria, you may still be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon program. If you are a fully online student, you will be charged one rate of tuition regardless of your state of residence.
Yellow Ribbon eligibility criteria
The Yellow Ribbon program at NAU is used to pay for higher education non-resident tuition that is not covered by the post–9/11 GI Bill, and for students who do not meet the qualifications for the Choice Act (section 702). Only Chapter 33 post–9/11 GI Bill® students at 100% eligibility qualify for the Yellow Ribbon program. This includes dependents using transferred Chapter. 33 benefits, or Fry Scholarship recipients. To verify eligibility, please review your certificate of eligibility.
Yellow Ribbon funds are only available to students who have enough benefit time remaining to cover the entire term. Eligibility for the program is re-evaluated each term.
Note: You must complete your citizenship verification at nau.edu/verify before you proceed with the residency form.
To determine eligibility, please complete the in-state tuition/Yellow Ribbon form.
Military-connected dependents and families
Military-dependent students utilizing Chapter 33 post–9/11 GI Bill, Chapter 35 dependents educational assistance, or Fry scholarship can qualify for immediate reclassification to the in-state tuition rate under the Choice Act (section 702).
