Steps to Getting Started
1. New and Transferring Students: Log into https://www.vets.gov/ to complete the required application process.
2. Allow four to six weeks for Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Submit a copy to our office:

Tuition Deferment Accordion Closed
Chapter 33 benefits will automatically defer tuition after we fully process your class certification. Submit your course schedule as soon as possible. You may self-enroll in the free NAU Veterans Tuition Payment Plan if you’re using any other benefit besides Chapter 33.
W.A.V.E. Program Accordion Closed
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs requires veterans receiving Montgomery GI Bill benefits (Chapters 1606, 1607, or 30) to verify attendance each month in order to receive timely benefit payments.

Yellow Ribbon Program Accordion Closed
Northern Arizona University offers the U.S Department of Veteran Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program to an unlimited number of eligible students. The Yellow Ribbon Program allows NAU and the VA make matching contributions toward your education expenses. The Yellow Ribbon Program also allows for payment of additional costs beyond what the Post-9/11 GI Bill® pays.
Eligibility criteria:
- All students using Chapter 33 Post 9/11 with 100% rating and are Eligible for Yellow Ribbon. To verify eligibility please review your Certificate of Eligibility.
- Please review your residency status prior. Under the Veterans Choice Act you could be eligible for in-state tuition and yellow ribbon will no longer be needed. Residency must be established prior to yellow ribbon acceptance
- Yellow ribbon is only given to those who have eligibility in yellow ribbon. Lack of months or VA funding per student could result in the removal of yellow ribbon funding from Northern Arizona University at any time.
No application is required, instead, to determine eligibility, please complete the Residency/Yellow Ribbon Eligibility Form.

Tuition Assistance offers educational assistance to active duty military members. Each branch has specific tuition assistance limits and application procedures:

- 100 percent of tuition up to: $250/credit hour; 16 credit hours each fiscal year

- 100 percent of tuition and fees up to: $250/credit hour; $4,500 each fiscal year
