Electronic Fingerprinting

New employees who are required to be fingerprinted will be notified of this requirement in their Welcome Email.

If you have been notified that fingerprinting is required for your new role, please follow all of the steps in the process shown below.

You must complete steps 1 and 2 before you arrive for your fingerprinting appointment.

*Note:  This process cannot be completed in 1 day.

For more detailed instructions, please refer to our Electronic Fingerprinting Process guide.

Step 1:  Create Account through DPS

  1. Create an account (or if you already have an account, log in) in the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Public Service Portal.  (https://psp.azdps.gov/).
  2. When asked “Are you an individual, school, employer, or state licensing agency and will be conducting a fingerprint-based background check for employment or licensure?”  Select YES.
  3. When asked “Which best describes you?”  Select INDIVIDUAL.
  4. Click on Services in the top toolbar and then the tile for Background Check for Employment/Licensure, when prompted enter code: ssp-190.a
  5. Select Employer/Agency Pay (NAU covers the cost for employees).  If you mistakenly pay for your fingerprints, NAU will not reimburse you.
  6. Answer each question asked in the portal, providing complete and accurate responses.
  7. Watch for messages in your DPS portal once payment has been approved (about 1-2 business days) – approval and next steps will be sent there.

Step 2:  Create Fieldprint Account & Schedule Your Fingerprinting Appointment

  1. After you have received your DPS approval, log in to your DPS account and click on “Messages” in the top toolbar.  Review the message and click on the link to register with Fieldprint.
  2. Enter requested demographic information required by DPS and the FBI.
  3. Create your Fieldprint account.  When asked to enter a Fieldprint code, use the code below that best aligns with your appointment location preferences:
    • Required code for the NAU HR Flagstaff Office location: FPIHFP
    • Required code for any other Fieldprint location: FPNWFP
  4. When asked to enter a reference number, enter the number you received in your DPS portal message.
  5. On the Employer page in the Data Collection section, answer NO to the question asking “Is there employer information you would like to provide?”  There will be a blank page after this question that you can click through.
  6. Choose a fingerprinting location and schedule your appointment.
    • NAU Flagstaff HR Office – once you are done creating a Fieldprint account, schedule an appointment at NAU HR.
    • Another Fieldprint location – schedule your appointment through Fieldprint.
  7. You know you can attend your appointment when you have received a QR code confirmation.
    • If you are being fingerprinted at the NAU Flagstaff HR Office, you must schedule an appointment through our front desk.

Step 3:  Attend Your Appointment

  1. Bring 2 forms of valid ID to your appointment.
    • Your appointment confirmation email will contain detailed instructions.
*If you are being fingerprinted at the NAU HR Flagstaff Office, you may complete your I-9 verification at the same time as your fingerprinting appointment.
