Building Energy Conservation and Comfort Initiative (BECI)
The Building Energy Conservation Initiative (BECI) is a collaboration between the Office of Sustainability and Facilities to assess the energy efficiency of buildings on campus. Through this initiative, we will conduct energy audits to define the unique energy profile of each building. Then, we will meet with building occupants to discuss audit results and recommended energy conservation practices for your specific space. The overall goal is to mobilize and empower the NAU community to engage in more sustainable behaviors, save money through utility cost savings, identify ways to make buildings more comfortable for university staff, and contribute to our carbon neutrality goals as outlined in the NAU Climate Action Plan.
General Recommendations
For buildings that haven’t had an audit done, we have developed some general recommendations for best energy conservation practices. Feel free to download and distribute these to people in your building, office, or department.

Make a Pledge to Save Energy!
Fill out our BECI Pledge Form and make a public commitment to save energy on campus. Why is this impactful? The more people who make pledges, the more we can generate social support for energy conservation and build a culture of sustainability at NAU. By making these pledges public, we can show others that these energy conservation actions are important, doable, and socially supported.
