Letom Kpea, a driven and motivated student, is set to embark on her college journey at the University of Chicago with a full-ride scholarship, beginning this Fall semester. Letom, who started preparing for college as a freshman, has always aimed high, with dreams of attending an out-of-state university.
“I had the vision that I wanted to go out of state since middle school,” Letom said.
Letom plans to major in Pre-Law at the University of Chicago. Her interest in this field stems from her interests in criminal justice, detective work, and the impact of working in the justice system.
“When I was really thinking about it, it fit all the categories that I really was looking for in college,” Letom explained. “It’s a great learning environment, and then also the city. I feel like the city brings lots of opportunities and big possibilities, so I believe that my networking and my post-career goals, I’ll have a lot of things set up there.”
Letom received acceptance letters from several other prestigious schools, including Cornell, Boston University, Washington University in Saint Louis, Smith, and Colgate, showcasing her academic excellence and dedication.
Aside from her academic achievements, Letom is also deeply involved in her community. She participates in multiple extracurriculars including Future Business Leaders of America, AP classes, and Youth Council. She is currently assisting her sister in her campaign for a state officer position for a high school program, showcasing her commitment to supporting others and effecting change.
Throughout her academic journey, Letom has been supported by her family, Mr. Lockhart and Miss Seymour (two GEAR UP coaches at Buckeye Union High School). Their guidance and support have been instrumental in her success.
“I definitely want to thank Mr. Lockhart, Miss Seymour, and my family. They’re my foundation,” Letom expressed.
As she prepares to embark on this new chapter, Letom reflects on her journey with gratitude and determination, ready to make the most of her college experience and continue making a positive impact on her community.
