Attending college can be an exciting time for students, but it can also come with financial challenges. The cost of tuition, books, room, and board can add up quickly and make college expensive. Scholarships are one of many ways to help students pay for college. At our 5E High Schools, GEAR UP Coaches are working with students to help them secure scholarships for their future.
Buckeye Union High School District
The Buckeye Union High School District has had two students named Dorrance Scholars this year. The Dorrance Scholarship offers a four-year $12,000 academic scholarship, educational support, and opportunities. Both students represent our two GEAR UP High Schools Buckeye Union High School and Youngker High School. In addition, Youngker High School has a student named a Flinn Scholar. The Flinn Scholarship selects approximately 20 stand-out Arizona high-school seniors and, covers tuition, fees, housing, meals at one of Arizona’s public universities, and provides opportunities for studying abroad.
Coronado High School
The Coronado Promise is a community initiative to provide financial assistance and support for eligible Coronado High School graduates for the first two years of higher education. The program offers financial aid to cover tuition, books and provides mentorship and check-in support. Initially, the program aimed to support 30 recipients with $150,000 raised, but with additional funding from the community, CHS can award scholarships to 41 students.
