We need your help to spread the word about free career advising for high school juniors and seniors. AdviseAZ, a program of AZGU project partner College Success Arizona, provides a near-peer advising model to help students prepare for the future.
AdviseAZ AmeriCorps strives to increase the number of students who enroll in and complete postsecondary education. Thanks to the partnership between Arizona GEAR UP and College Success Arizona, high school juniors and seniors across the state can receive free career and college advice. AdviseAZ uses a near-peer model to encourage the student-adviser relationship, which emphasizes the student’s interests and goals during the college exploration and application processes.
What’s the catch? No catch, really. All students need to engage in the program is fill out an interest form. The short survey helps connect high school juniors and seniors with current college students who are passionate about supporting others reach their goals. Peer mentors will provide support and advice to students to help navigate some of the transitions from high school to college. Since there isn’t a required time commitment, students can request help with something as straightforward as filling out a college application, or students can decide they’d like to meet multiple times with their mentor to discuss career interests.
What high school junior or senior couldn’t use a little more support with college-going needs? So, please help us spread the word about these free services. If you know someone who would benefit from these services, please share the link above or direct questions to Roxanne Murphy at College Success Arizona.
