Do you know families that struggle to pay for internet—especially since COVID-19 hit? Help is on the way. In response to the pandemic, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) launched the Emergency Broadband Benefit for families in need, and we want you to help us spread the word.
The service provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband internet service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase technology equipment. Households must meet certain income and assistance guidelines. Households can apply here.
While this benefit is directly tied to the pandemic, the FCC manages a permanent program through Lifeline.
Additionally, participating providers may discount existing services and products, so there could be very little out of pocket expense.
Lastly, the FCC made promotional efforts extremely easy. They created a promotional toolkit that includes everything from social media to newsletter copy to slide presentations. Materials are available in both English and Spanish. So, if you know someone who could benefit, please help us share.
