Adelante Scholarship Targets 2020 Graduates

Arizona GEAR UP is proud to partner with Helios Education Foundation, Achieve60AZ| College Success Arizona | Expect More Arizona, and other community partners on the Helios Adelante Scholars Initiative, which provides a  $1000 incentive scholarship to 2020 graduates to encourage college attendance.

Coach’s Spotlight: Emily Johnson

Since the beginning of Arizona GEAR UP, a program staple has been building positive community relationships that empower students to reach their full potential.

In 2002, Emily Johnson worked for Kino Jr. High and became one of the first GEAR UP Coaches in Arizona. The first GEAR UP grant was a cohort model that followed a class from middle school through high school graduation.

Professional Development in a Pandemic

Arizona GEAR UP facilitated the College, Career, and Academic Planning course for Arizona educators this spring. Program Manager of Senior Year Services Daniel Pulu led the group of College Access Professionals (CAP) in a four-session course that focused on engaging students in early career awareness and development; supporting students in career and postsecondary planning; using data to address equity and to guide academic and career planning; and the importance of postsecondary choices and finding the right postsecondary fit.
