Arizona GEAR UP maintains close relationships with our 5E Schools, which include Amphitheater High School, Buckeye Union High School, Coronado High School, Tonopah Valley High School, and Youngker High School.
As we all know, this year presented challenges beyond our imagination. Even though the 5E High Schools remain virtual, GEAR UP Coaches make sure to keep parents and students informed. Thanks to their dedication, students can achieve success in the pursuit of postsecondary education.
Also, our GEAR UP school teams collaborated with Student Success Agency (SSA) to kick-off digital mentoring services—virtually, of course. Unanimous feedback gave SSA two thumbs up. Presenters provided enthusiasm and excitement, which spread to the students. Some schools will deliver an in-person SSA kick-off when students return to hybrid learning after Fall Break. This presentation will include a motivational speaker, which will help students focus on learning, dedication, and college and career readiness during COVID-19.
Since FAFSA opened in October, the 5E High Schools offered virtual workshops to help students and parents with the process. And, Arizona GEAR UP provided promotional materials. Students and parents learned more about college readiness, financial aid, FAFSA filing, and scholarship and college applications. Additionally, several schools will administer the SAT or ACT this fall for seniors who couldn’t take the exams last spring.
We extend big kudos to our 5E High Schools as they persevere during the pandemic.
