President’s HealthyU Wellness Walks

Tuesday, November 19, 12 noon
Walk: Louie Lunch South

Wednesday, December 11, 12 noon
Walk: Lumberjack Mile

Join us for Bites and Hikes walks with the Office of the President, Campus Recreation, Employee Assistance and Wellness, and Campus Dining. These walks will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Please wear sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen and carry a water bottle. There will be snacks available after the walk courtesy of the Office of the President. Registration is not required. All are welcome.

Fall to Sleep

Thursday, November 21, 10 – 11 am
HLC room 2405
Led by Heather Nash, PhD, EAW Director and Psychologist

This workshop will focus on helping you improve the quality of your sleep!  Participants will learn about sleep in general, factors affecting sleep, and how to optimize sleep.  Participants will be sent a sleep diary to fill out the week before the workshop so they can optimize their sleep program.

Mindfulness for Beginners

Thursday, December 5, 11:30 am – 1 pm

Mindfulness has become a buzzword in our modern vernacular. And as such, who doesn’t want to be more ‘mindful’ in some aspect of their lives? Yet, what does this mean? And how do we practice in a hectic, busy world to slow down and pay attention? Come learn the foundations of secular mindfulness meditation and some practical ways to integrate these practices in your daily life.

Guided Mindfulness Practice meetings

Led by Dr. Heather Nash, EAW Director/Psychologist & EAW team
Tuesdays, through December 10, 12:15 – 12:45 pm
Applied Research and Development (ARD), building #56, large pod room on the ground floor, alternating with Science and Health, building #36, room 502, and, by Zoom*

Join us Tuesdays at 12:15 pm on campus or through Zoom for a guided meditation practice. No experience is necessary, come as you are, all are welcome.

The location will alternate each week, between the Science and Health building on November 19, then the Applied Research and Development (ARD) Large Pod on November 26, etc. Visit the NAU Events Calendar link below to verify location.

Zumba Class – last class of the semester!

Led by Alice Coulter Gibb, NAU Biology Professor and licensed Zumba Fitness Instructor
Thursday, November 21 at 12 noon

Applied Research and Development (ARD Building #56), large pod room on the ground floor, and by Zoom*
Zumba is a cardio-dance fitness program that combines Latin, Pop, and World music. Zumba dance routines incorporate interval training (alternating fast and slow rhythms) and resistance training. No previous experience is necessary and modifications will be offered by the instructor to accommodate physical limitations.

Flu Vaccines

Flu shots are still available through Campus Health Services!

Tuesday, November 19, 1 – 3 pm, du Bois Conference Center, Aspen A room
Thursday, December 5, 10 am – 12 noon, University Union, 1st floor, near the Central Ticket Office

Campus Health Services (CHS) provides flu shot clinics on campus throughout the fall for NAU faculty, staff, adult dependents of employees and students. CHS accepts Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and Tricare insurance plans.  Appointments are not required at the mobile clinics. Please wear short sleeves or sleeves that can be rolled up and bring your insurance card. Flu shots are also available at Campus Health Services by appointment.

Wall Aquatic Center Employee Programs

Open swim hours at Wall Aquatic Center

Sundays:              12:30 – 5:30 pm

Mondays:            11:30 am – 1:30 pm and 6 – 9 pm

Tuesdays:            6:00 – 8:00 am and 11:30 am – 1:30 pm and 7 – 10 pm

Wednesdays:     11:30 am – 1:30 pm and 6 – 9 pm

Thursdays:          6:00 – 8:00 am and 11:30 am – 1:30 pm and 7 – 10 pm

Fridays:                 11:30 am – 1:30 pm and 6 – 9 pm

Saturdays:           6 – 8 am and 12:30 – 5:30 pm

We are pleased to announce our new evening open swim hours started with the semester! These hours will hopefully make water-based workouts more convenient after your workday. Please note that other usage groups may be in the facility during these times as well.

EMP (Employee-Only) Classes- join any time!
Health and Learning Center, Recreation Center
Cost options: $35 / 5 classes, $60 / 10 classes, $75 / 15 classes – join any time!

Attend EMP group exercise classes without a recreation membership, for as little as $5/class! The pass is not transferrable or refundable and expires 1-year from date of purchase. Purchase your pass online (under the Multi-Visit passes option) and/or in-person at the Rec Center Front Desk. For more information, contact fitness@nau.edu or 928-523-1582.  

All Levels Yoga

Mondays, 12:15 – 1 pm

Led by Melissa Schonauer, Assistant Professor of Practice in the Honors College, RYT-200

Focus on technique and alignment during each pose. Train your breathing, flexibility, and strength. Reduce stress and improve your physical and mental balance. Explore hatha, vinyasa, and yin yoga styles.

Gentle Yoga

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:15 – 1:15 pm
Recreation Center, Wellness Suite
Led by Judy Springer, NAU ERI, Research Specialist, Sr.; MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling; RYT 200

Build strength and improve posture through a series of gentle yoga poses. Relax and rid your body of mental stressors while stretching and toning all over. Suitable for all levels.

 

HealthyU Deadlines

*The HealthyU deadline is December 14, 2019 at 6 pm! Don’t delay and risk website crashes! EAW support will be available until noon on Friday, December 13.

If you are on the NAU BCBSAZ plan, there is still time to earn your earn a level 1 ($115) or level 2 ($300) wellness incentive. Be sure to have your current biometrics on hand to complete the required wellness assessment. Once you have completed everything for level 1 or 2, be sure to take a screen shot or print the page with total points for your records.

For complete instructions on how to earn and record points, please visit nau.edu/healthyU or call 928-523-1552. Please note: you must be on the NAU BCBSAZ health care plan at the time the incentive is paid out (February 2020) to be eligible for the wellness incentive.

Join healthyU, a wellness program open to NAU employees with NAU Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona health insurance.
