Employee Services provides professional human resource services in the areas of benefits, classification, compensation, talent management, employee services, employee relations, and HR operational support.
Employee Services – Benefit Services Accordion Closed
The Benefits Services team is responsible for communication, administration and compliance of the university’s benefit programs. NAU employees are eligible to participate in plans sponsored by State of Arizona, via the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) and Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS). Because of its unique historical position among the state universities, NAU also negotiates and offers its own separate medical benefits option through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona and Supplemental Life Insurance plan through the Hartford. Benefits Services team also manages leaves of absence and worker’s compensation. A significant “benefit” that is highly valued by NAU’s faculty and staff is waiver or significant discount of tuition for employees and dependents at any of the three state universities. Benefits team goals are to manage and create health benefits strategies and programs that enhance the well-being of our employees, retirees, and their families.

The Employee Relations team provides advice, guidance and direction to leadership, managers, supervisors, and employees on a wide range of workplace interactions including employee performance management, interpretation and consistent application of policy, employee and supervisor employment rights and responsibilities, and processes associated with corrective and disciplinary actions. Team goals are to build an environment of employee engagement, empowerment, and involvement where people can offer their best as well as equip managers with tools, resources and a policy framework that facilitates a professional and effective workplace.
