Glass Recycling
Although we no longer recycle glass in our normal recycling bins in Flagstaff, there are now nine bins around campus that are dedicated specifically to glass recycling!
When using one of the nine recycling bins on campus, do NOT place anything other than the glass jars/bottles/etc. into the glass recycling bin, as the bins are ONLY for recycling glass. Glass is 100% recyclable, so by placing it in one of the bins on campus, you are helping to divert large amounts of waste from local landfills.
Accepted Items Accordion Closed
- Glass bottles (ex: beer, wine, vinegar, sparkling water, condiments, etc.)
- Glass jars (ex: pickles, peanut butter, jelly, capers, mayonnaise, etc.)
Reminders Accordion Closed
- Empty all food and liquids.
- Spatulas are excellent for getting the last bit of gunk out of jars.
- For oily bottles, like salad dressing, add a drop of dishwasher fluid and some water. Then reattach the lid and shake to get rid of the gunk and oily residue.
NOT Acceptable Items Accordion Closed
- Other glass items (eg: mirrors, mugs, plates, vases, drinking glasses, cosmetic jars, etc.) Place those in the garbage.
- Plastic or paper bags. Place glass into the glass recycling containers loosely, without a bag.
