Hello, WordPress users!
We wanted to provide you with an update from the Web Team regarding the WordPress mass migration effort, often referred to as the WordHerd migration.
Over the last month we have spent considerable time refining the efforts of WordHerd’s migration process in order to provide the cleanest and best-looking results possible for migrated sites. Due to the complexities encountered we are seeing the August 1st deadline slip into later in the month, and are still addressing details around when sites from the WordHerd efforts will start going live, and when users will begin receiving access to their mass-migrated sites. However, we are quite pleased with the quality of work thus far, and the time spent refining the migration process has allowed the WCM Support Team to better prepare for the Quality Assurance (QA) processes every site will receive post-migration. These processes, along with the automatically-generated site health reports we will be able to send via SiteImprove, will lead to a much more easily-maintained site and enhanced experience for all of our users and visitors.
Even with the additional time spent improving this approach, considerable progress has been made. At this time, almost 50 sites have been migrated via WordHerd to a staging area and QA’d, with larger migration batches coming through this week and next. During this time, a few DIY sites from the non-WordHerd process have also launched, including the College of Education departments of Educational Leadership, Educational Psychology, Educational Specialties, and Teaching & Learning. Additional DIY sites are queued up to launch in the next few weeks as well.
We also wanted to reinforce past communications to remind everyone that you are still able to work on your DIY sites in stage.wp.nau.edu uninterrupted by the mass migration. If you finish your site, the necessary redirects, and submit it for review, we will strive to get that version live either shortly after or potentially even before the mass-migrated version of your site would go up.
This migration remains our top priority and we will continue to move these efforts forward as quickly as possible. We will be providing an update at the Unit Web Coordinators meeting next Friday, August 3rd, and will continue to post communications to the nau.edu/web website. If you have any questions around the mass migration or other WordPress-related concerns, please contact us via email at WCM-Support@nau.edu.
Thank you all for your patience throughout this process, and we look forward to working with you further as we enter the final stages of this migration!
