It’s midterm season! Time to hunker down and commit. With added mid-semester stress comes the need to take care of yourself. Check out these 5 tips that can help you ace your midterms while still keeping your health and well-being in check.
Tip #1: Find your study jam
Study in the way that works best for you. Everyone learns differently. Some find that hand writing notes and color coding works best for them, while others use flashcards, informational videos, or practice quizzes.
Study smarter, not harder, by studying in the way that you like best. If you don’t know which study tips work best for you, take this quiz to see what kind of learner you are. From there, you can find study tips related to your learning style.
Tip #2: Study with others
Study groups are a great way to stay motivated, learn new study skills, and gain a deeper understanding on some topics you might be struggling to fully understand.
Finding some classmates to study with gives you the opportunity to compare notes, see concepts from a new perspective, and teach each other the material. Plus, it can be more fun.
Tip #3: Take breaks
Taking a study break about every hour while studying can help you better retain information. Make the most of study breaks by doing a mindful or productive activity such as taking a walk, making a nutrient dense snack, tidying up your study space, listening to some music, or calling a friend.
These activities will get your mind off of studying for a little bit and let your mind re-energize.
Tip #4: Get help
If you’re struggling with a particular class or subject, check out campus resources! NAU offers tutoring services for several classes, both in person or online, and in drop-in, small group, or one-on-one formats.
Many classes have SI sessions to attend, and office hours are always a great option as well. If you need extra help with midterms essays or papers, be sure to check out the Writing Commons on campus.
If you need a little extra support when it comes to your mental health during this stressful midterm season, check out the Mental Health Support Squad for free peer-led support groups.
Tip #5: Take care of yourself
Self care is even more important during stressful seasons like midterms. Self care can look different for everyone, but a few ways to practice self care include getting enough sleep, taking a bath, incorporating joyful movement into your day, doing hobby that brings you joy, or spending time with people who make you happy.
