Here’s a brief description of each dimension of wellness and an example of a resource you will find listed on the LiveWellNAU website under that category.
Intellectual Wellness: This dimension helps to spark the fire of curiosity for life-long learning. Creating opportunities to continue learning helps to stimulate our brains and helps us grow each day. One NAU resource found on this list is meeting with a learning specialist who can help you develop a success plan for any academic skill such as time management.
Occupational Wellness: This dimension encourages everyone to find satisfaction and enjoyment in one’s own work. It can be so important to learn to balance work and leisure time. One resource is the Career Development’s Internship Programs resource page where you can explore different career options and see what best suits you.
Environmental Wellness: What better way to experience an energy burst than to get out and explore the outdoors. This dimension encourages you to explore the relationship between yourself and nature. One of the resources available is the Open Air Market where you can go and pick up fresh produce from here in Arizona! So cool!
Spiritual Wellness: This is the intersection of an individual’s personal values and beliefs. These beliefs and values can help evoke a sense of belonging and understanding in this crazy world. One resource on this list is the link to faith-based and non-faith based clubs you can join that support spiritual exploration.
Financial Wellness: This dimension gives individuals the ability to live within their means and also create a financial plan for the future. One resource is the budgeting tool, which has videos and worksheets to help you create a budget for school and other expenses. Who doesn’t want to save more money?
Physical Wellness: Taking proper care of your body can help improve lifelong health from disease. This can include movement, nutrition, stress, and sleep. A fun resource is the FIT programs where you can get 1 credit for taking a fitness class. This is the perfect way to fit fitness into your busy schedule.
Emotional Wellness: Identify positive and effective ways to cope with stressful or difficult situations that arise. For example, NAU has Counseling Services for individuals or couples.
Social Wellness: This dimension focuses on creating healthy relationships and strong connections in your life. There are resources here that can also help you to get rid of those toxic relationships! One great way to make new friends is to join an intramural sport or sport club, which is one of the many items on this list.
