With a master’s degree
After you finish your bachelor’s, you could enter a master’s program with four tracks or a MA in counseling in the College of Education. Some people use the MA to prepare to enter a doctoral program; others finish their master’s and teach in a community college setting or work in other professional or research settings.
With a doctoral degree
To be a licensed psychologist, you must complete a doctoral program and licensure requirements. You can also become a professor at a university with a doctoral degree.
Preparing for graduate school
Graduate school admissions are very competitive, so if you want to get in, plan ahead. These activities can make your application more competitive:
- doing research as an undergraduate
- earning excellent grades
- participating in clubs like Psi Chi or the Psychology Club
- outstanding scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
- superb recommendation(s) from professors who know you
If you’re interested in graduate school, speak to one of your professors or an advisor as soon as possible to start making plans.
