Day 5: Catching an employer’s attention
Buddy the Elf’s experience with problem-solving and persistence is pretty obvious throughout the movie:
- You can see them during his journey from the North Pole through the seven levels of the candy cane forest…
- You can see them during his trip through the sea of swirly-twirly gumdrops…
- You can see them during his final walk through the Lincoln Tunnel to get to New York City…
How can Buddy catch employers’ attention when he’s talking about his journey on his resume? By using strong action verbs, of course!
Would you be impressed if you saw this on Buddy’s resume?
Facilitated multiple holiday wilderness trips by organizing routing, food and water supplies, and medical emergency plans, across the world, including the North Pole, the sea of swirly-twirly gumdrops, and Lincoln Tunnel (in New York City).
How about this — would you want to keep reading?
Excellent problem-solving and persistence abilities, demonstrated by my successful navigation through all seven (7) levels of the candy cane forest, strengthening my abilities to read, write, and speak foreign languages fluently and to perform complex trip planning and on-the-spot travel and safety adaptation protocols.
The trick here is to focus on your accomplishments, rather than just providing a job description!
When you write your own resume, make sure to start every statement with a strong action verb to describe your own experiences and give potential employers a reason to keep reading!
