Day 2: Busting career myths: resume length
We want to start off this holiday season by busting two myths!
To start, Santa Claus IS real, I saw him at the mall this weekend.
Secondly, your resume DOES NOT have to be restricted to one page. If you have relevant experiences that you think will help make you the best candidate, don’t be afraid to add a second page!
One page is a great goal for freshman students as they begin to explore what college has to offer and learn how to connect the dots between their transferable skills and experiences.
By your sophomore year, you should start to have enough content to leave off some high school information and replace it with the cool and exciting things you’ve been doing in college!
By your junior and senior years, you’re almost there! If you’ve been super involved in clubs and organizations, juggled two part-time jobs, led some study groups, volunteered on the weekends, and more, you may be ready to continue your highlights onto that second page.
Rule of thumb: If it’s anything less than one-and-a-half pages, you can likely shrink it down to one. If it’s beyond that, you are good to go onto that full second page!
