Request a workshop or presentation
NAU Career Development partners with faculty, other staff, and student organizations to offer a series of professional development workshops or guest lectures. We can come to your classroom, meeting, or event to deliver an interactive presentation, which allows students to learn from each other and establishes social norms around the importance of career.
Please submit your request at least 3-4 weeks prior to your preferred presentation date; we will respond within 3-5 business days. We request that a minimum of 12 students attend.

Careers in the 21st Century Accordion Closed
Workshop Description:
Participants will learn how to explore job options and research career paths within their field of study. Participants will also explore individual strengths, interests, and values to identify possibilities and direction. This presentation features information on salaries, industry growth predictions and commonly recruited skills.
Learning outcomes:
- Define career and dispel myths surrounding career
- Identify concrete actions you can take to start your career now
Getting started with LinkedIn Accordion Closed
Workshop description:
Participants will learn how to build their professional brand online through LinkedIn to represent their skills, education, experience and career goals. Participants will also learn how to utilize several key features of LinkedIn, including enhanced use of Recommendations and Endorsements, Job searching from LinkedIn, the Alumni Finder tool, keyword and search optimization, and more.
Learning outcomes:
- Create and define an online personal/professional brand (i.e. LinkedIn)
- Identify elements of a successful LinkedIn profile to maximize visibility and online presence
- Identify strategic use of LinkedIn tools (including the Alumni Finder and Job Search Tool) and how to apply them to their own experiences
- Become comfortable utilizing LinkedIn to build your network

Workshop description:
Participants will learn about appropriate dress and body language for interviews and how to create their own brand while remaining professional. Participants will also reflect on their experiences, learn how to craft a story, and how to appropriately articulate the story to employers through the STAR response method.
Learning outcomes:
- Recognize appropriate and professional interview attire
- Identify nervous habits and replace them with professional, confident body language
- Respond to Behavioral Interview Questions using the STAR method

Workshop description:
Participants will reflect upon their experiences, achievements, and accomplishments, develop a document with appropriate fonts, format, and content to support their personal/professional brand, and be provided with the tools to create a professional resume and cover letter to showcase their experiences to obtain employment.

- Identify the formatting and layout that will make your resume stand out
- Write impactful bullet points
- Write personalized, targeted cover letters using a professional format
Leadership comes in all colors Accordion Closed
Workshop description:
Participants will learn to identify their “color spectrum” using four cards that represent key personality types: Blue, Gold, Green, or Orange. Each color has particular strengths and each analyzes, conceptualizes, understands, interacts, and learns differently. Each person is a unique blend of the four colors or styles-a spectrum.
Learning outcomes:
- Complete the True Colors assessment and identify your dominant (and not so dominant) personality type or types (your “color)
- Explore the pros and cons of working with your “color,” increasing our understanding, empathy, and appreciation of commonalities and differences
- Identify how your “color” impacts how you lead, and how you like to be led

Workshop description:
Participants will learn about social networking theory as it relates to their lives, different types of networks, and how to develop professional relationships that can enhance future career opportunities.

Workshop description:
Participants will learn how to explore job opportunities that align with their skills, experience, and career path with a plethora of online and web-based tools including O*Net, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook, Handshake, and more. Participants will also learn how to create a “Career Self-Care plan” and effectively evaluate future job offers.
Learning outcomes:
- Set realistic expectations for your job search
- Identify a diverse set of tangible strategies to land that job
- Create a “Career Self-Care” plan
- Learn how to effectively evaluate future job offers
Starting with your strengths Accordion Closed
Workshop description:
- Participants will learn to identify their personal and professional strengths and talents, and explore new language with which they can communicate those strengths and talents. Participants will engage in an hour-long CliftonStrengths for Students assessment, which measures and narrows natural patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving into four domains – strategic thinking, executing, influencing, and relationship building – to pinpoint their strengths and talents.
- After completing the assessment, participants will explore their strengths and talents though a customized report which examines how to use their results working with new information and within team settings, making things happen, influencing others, and building relationships.
Learning outcomes:
- Complete the CliftonStrengths assessment and discover your Top 5 talent themes
- Identify the Gallup philosophy of strengths-based development
- Reflect on how your strengths make you uniquely you – at school, at work, and in life
- Explore ways to leverage your strengths and engage in strengths-based conversations in a variety of environments
