Have you ever looked at a picture and assumed it was taken with an expensive professional camera, only to discover it was captured by a smartphone? For National Camera Day on June 24, Beth Anne Staub, assistant teaching professor of photography, who recently won first place in the photography section of the Arizona Treasures art show, answered some questions about how you can make phone pictures look like professional photographs.

Fighting fire with a strong foundation

Through pro bono athletic training work with the Flagstaff Fire Department’s Firefighter Recruit Academy, NAU faculty member Megan Mulready has already reduced injuries among local first responders. She hopes to build on that momentum by bringing her expertise to other fire and police departments across northern Arizona.

Now open at NAU: A day club for seniors with cognitive challenges

The Flagstaff Adult Day Club, run by Arizona nonprofit Oakwood Creative Care and housed at NAU’s Institute for Human Development, provides stimulating activities for local residents with memory loss, a respite for caregivers and a living laboratory for NAU students and faculty who want to better understand memory and aging.

Jacks in a Flash: Alexandra Carpino

Alexandra A. Carpino, a professor of comparative cultural studies and associate dean of the College of Arts and Letters, was one of four scholars invited to present at an opening day symposium for the first international exhibition of Etruscan art in the United States since 2009. She answered a few quick Qs about her presentation at San Francisco’s Legion of Honor Museum, the two articles she co-wrote for the catalogue that accompanies the exhibition and the history of some Etruscan women who earned a reputation for being modern and independent.
