Arizona GEAR UP has developed three (3) unique guides to assist in the career exploration process for middle grade students. These guides are as follows:
Discover Guide
Discover Parent Guide
Discover Facilitator Guide
Students attending Arizona GEAR UP partner middle grade schools are eligible to receive printed guides from Arizona GEAR UP. All other partners, educators, students, and families can download the guide online for free in English or Spanish. Partner middle schools can contact the Middle School Services Manager, Jasmine Dean, at Jasmine.Dean@nau.edu to order guides or for more information.
Discover Guide
The Discover Guide provides middle-grade students with an interactive way to explore how their interests, passions, abilities, and cultural influences can influence life after high school. As students investigate these things, they will discover careers that fit their lifestyle and personality—and how to get there. The Discover Guide also helps students develop an Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) by the time they reach the 8th grade. The guides below are meant for 8th-grade students to be able to use in their career development and are a replica of the printed version available from Arizona GEAR UP.

The Parent Guide provides middle grade parents a resource they can use to support their students’ post-secondary plans. This guide will be useful for parents to support their child through middle school, high school, and life beyond. The guide below is a replica of the printed version available from Arizona GEAR UP.

The Discover Facilitator Guide provides teachers with an interactive resource to use with middle school students to explore their interests, passions, abilities, and influences. The Facilitator Guide provides step-by-step directions and supplemental activities to teach students the information displayed in the Discover Guide. We designed the guide to offer a lot of flexibility on instruction—you can assign activities for homework or incorporate them into classroom activities. The guide below is a replica of the printed version available from Arizona GEAR UP.
