Usable Materials Center
The Usable Materials Center (UMC) is a resource for the campus community to help support the University’s mission to provide an inclusive and universally designed academic environment. Faculty can request assistance in making content accessible for their courses, whether they have a student enrolled with a disability or not. NAU staff can request assistance in making training materials, flyers or other documents and media accessible to help ensure equitable access for all recipients.
The purpose of the Center is to assist in making print material and video content accessible for all users. Some examples of this include:
- Making sure a PDF document is properly tagged and formatted so that it is readable by an individual who is blind or visually impaired and using a screen reader
- Adding closed captions to video content to make it accessible for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Providing guidance and training on creating accessible documents
- Proofing documents to check for accessibility issues
To request conversions for print material, or to request closed captioning for video content, please complete and submit the usable materials request form.
