Funding for low-paying and unpaid internships 

You may be eligible for a stipend of up to $2,750 to support your internship. NAU Career Development provides funding to eligible undergraduate students who have low-paying and unpaid internships. All students who meet eligibility criteria will be considered; preference may be given to students with demonstrated financial need. 

Student Eligibility Requirements Accordion Closed

  • Northern Arizona University undergraduate student enrolled in/enrolling in classes for the upcoming semester 
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident (or U.S. high school graduate eligible to receive residency benefits under Arizona Prop 308) 
  • Hired for an internship (summer, fall/spring semester, or winter break) 
  • Has completed at least 30 credits at NAU 
  • In good academic standing 
  • Has not previously been awarded internship funding through this fund 
  • Is not receiving funding for the internship through another NAU department  

Internship eligibility requirements Accordion Closed

  • Internships must be at least four weeks long or a minimum of 60 cumulative hours to qualify for funding. 
  • Internships must take place with an established business, organization, or agency. Internships supervised by immediate family members (including parents or guardians) are not eligible.

  • After you have been offered an internship, you can apply. 
  • Priority deadlines for each application cycle are listed below. Applications will be reviewed starting on the dates below and will continue to be reviewed on a rolling basis until available funding has been distributed.
    • April 15 (summer internships) 
    • July 15  (fall internships) 
    • November 15 (winter internships) 
    • December 1 (spring internships) 
  • Applications received less than four weeks in advance of the internship start date may be considered, but there is no guarantee that funding will be available by the start date.
