Stress-Less This Finals Week

Posted by Dawn on April 19, 2021

Finals week is almost here! This semester has flown by and with finals just around the corner you may be starting to feel the STRESS. Just remember, in a few weeks you will be done with the semester and can take some time to relax. In the meantime, check out these 8 tips to manage your stress and feel confident going into finals week!

1.  Start studying early

It is never too early to start studying for finals! It can be hard to study when you still have assignments and projects due. However, it can be really helpful to start reviewing for finals early. Even if it is just 15 minutes to look at your notes from earlier in the semester, it can make a huge difference when finals week comes around.

2. Make a study plan

Planning is key for successful study sessions. It helps you stay organized and prioritize each class. There are a variety of ways to plan out your studying. For example, you can use a planner, calendar, to do lists, or try out using an Eisenhower box to prioritize your tasks. What planning strategies will you be using this finals season?

3. Take breaks

While it may be tempting to just sit down and power through all of your studying, that method can be exhausting. Taking breaks can help you stay focused and motivated. Try taking a 15 minute break after 45 minutes of studying to keep your mind fresh. This is also a great opportunity to go on a quick walk outside to get some fresh air or grab a quick snack.

4. Be creative

Finding creative ways to study can help keep you engaged and make studying fun. Maybe you like to use Quizlet reviews or play a Jeopardy game. If you like art, try drawing out the information or creating diagrams to put it in a new perspective. And of course, there is always the method of teaching the information to your roommates or pets. Finding creative ways to study can make a huge difference and help you stay focused these last few weeks.

5. Attend study sessions

Study sessions are a great way for you to connect with your classmates and prep for the test together. Check to see if your TA or SI is hosting any study sessions. If not, you can always create a study group to review and compare notes. Study groups are great because it is much more fun to study with others and if there are concepts you didn’t quite master yet, your study mates might be able to help you out!

6. Go to bed early

College students are known for pulling all-nighters, however this can be stressful and make you feel tired all the time. Try setting a time each day for you to put down the schoolwork and get ready for bed. Sleep is one of the most important ways for you to take care of yourself and give you brain time to relax.

7. Remember self care

Be sure to get some me-time in and take care of yourself. Maybe you like to exercise, color, or hangout with your pets. Whatever it is, make sure you schedule time in your day to focus on you and caring for your mental health.

8. Set alarms for your exams

Last but certainly not least, remember to write down the day and time of your test. Adding an alarm in your phone can also help you remember when your finals are. Sleeping through your finals is every college student’s worst nightmare, so be sure to be one step ahead and set alarms for each of your finals.
