6 Reasons to Meet with a Health Coach

Posted by Dawn on March 1, 2021

You’ve probably heard the term ‘health coach’ but what does that even mean? You might have conjured up images of someone cheering you on during your workout, or showing you how to make smoothies. Well, not quite.

A health coach is actually just a really good listener. A health coach has tips and suggestions ready to go if you need them, but most importantly, a health coach wants to first hear from you first to find out what’s important to you.

What are your goals related to health and well-being and what ideas do you have for reaching them? From there, the health coach can help you come up with a plan.

Health coaching may sound a little intimidating, but if you take the leap and schedule a session with us, you might be happily surprised! Our health coaches spend an entire semester in training.

Here are 6 great reasons to meet with a UCAN health coach:

1. Because you’re feeling stressed out

Got a lot on your plate? Let’s put our heads together and figure out how we can move through life feeling less overwhelmed. We can talk calendars and to-do lists to help you manage it all better, along with self-care strategies so that you can care for yourself well during hard times.

2. Because you haven’t been a big fan of your body lately

Appreciating and, dare I say, loving your body can be a rollercoaster ride with some serious ups and downs. Feeling good in your own skin might sound impossible. If it does and you want to try to change the way you think about your body, consider meeting with us.

We will validate all your thoughts and feelings. We totally get it. We live in the same harsh world that makes it nearly impossible to love our bodies. Our coaches are trained in helping clients with tangible strategies that can help retrain your brain to experience more peace about your body.

3. Because you’re tired

College might have you feeling like tired is just your new personality trait. What if I told you it doesn’t have to be? Finding a way to work through your daily challenges while fitting in enough rest is something we can talk about together. Let’s find a schedule that works for you. We can help with changes related to sleep schedules and sleep hygiene so that you’re catching those ZZZZZZs.

4. Because you feel out of control when you eat certain foods

Eating and emotions are intertwined. It can be hard to figure out how to navigate and pull apart emotional triggers and hunger. We have some great tools for helping you find self-care strategies when emotions are intense while also discovering ways to honor your body and taste buds when food is the best medicine.

Unpacking and understanding why you feel this way is an important part to feeling more in control. We can also support you in meal planning so that you have the foods on hand that help you to feel your best.

5. Because you don’t feel motivated to workout

We’ve all been there. You want to workout but you’re not feeling motivated even in the slightest. Let’s unpack that together. It’s normal to go through cycles of wanting to workout, working out, then finding reasons not to workout.

It’s great to be able to understand what works for you and if you want some help to figure that out, meeting with a health coach is a great place to start. We can have a brainstorming sesh to figure out what activities you find fun and go from there.

6. Because you’ve been feeling sort of lonely

We are great listeners here at UCAN. Come talk to us. Let’s talk about what’s making you feel like this, what’s going on in your life, and anything that might help you get back on track with the way you want things to be going. We understand how messy life can be and we want you to get the most out of your sessions with us. Even if we don’t choose a specific change to talk about, we can still listen and support you.
