1. Make the First Achievement of the Day an Easy One
Get your day started immediately through taking action that will make the rest of your day easier. The sooner you start your to-do list for the day, the more you can accomplish. The simple task of making your bed can put you into the right mind space of the day and increase your intrinsic motivation.
Just like Newton’s first law an object in motion will stay in motion blah blah blah…well, the same thing applies to motivation and action. It is harder to get started after procrastinating all morning so create a routine that gets you in motion!
2. Give your Brain a Break
Our bodies are not machines that can work 24/7. We need to constantly fuel and nourish physical and mental health needs throughout the day. This includes snacking, going outside for a walk, 5-10 minute meditations, or playing with your furry-friend. Adding these small breaks throughout the day will improve mental clarity and mood.
3. Breathe Deeply and Stretch Those Buns
Mind and body practices such as yoga and meditation improve your connection with your body. This connection often gets interrupted or forgotten about through challenges of daily life. Taking that moment once a day to ground yourself will help you remember what’s really important – YOU!
4. Do One Selfless Act a Day
Through committing to one selfless act a day, it improves the connection with those around you and may spark other people to do the same. Starting a positive reaction will make the world a better place and may boost your own mood.
5. Listen to your Body
Every single person is intrinsically different, meaning we all require a unique set of coping mechanisms. Listening to your body, without others opinions getting in the way is vital to your own individual health. For example, here are a few ways you could listen to your body this semester: eating when hungry, stopping when full, taking a break when struggling to focus, or taking a self care day when life is too overwhelming. Only YOU know what YOU need to be the best version of yourself.
