Preparedness starts before an emergency happens.

Whether you’re working in Flagstaff or at a statewide location, the most important thing you can do is stay informed, stay connected, and know where to find trusted information before you need it. This page connects NAU employees with recommended preparedness resources and training opportunities.

1. Be Informed: Download the NAU Safe App

The NAU Safe App is the primary safety resource recommended by NAU Emergency Management and NAUPD.

The app provides:

  • Emergency notifications
  • Safety resources
  • Take Action Guides
  • Campus safety information
  • Emergency contacts

2. Know What To Do

Emergency preparedness is more than receiving alerts. Take time to review https://in.nau.edu/police-department/safety/ and NAU Red Folder Resource.

Being familiar with these resources before an emergency can help you respond more confidently.

3. Stay Connected

Some emergencies affect both campus and the surrounding community. Flagstaff-area employees should also consider enrolling in local emergency notification systems, particularly for incidents such as:

  • Wildfires
  • Flooding
  • Evacuations
  • Severe weather

Training Opportunities

Active Attack Preparedness (AAP) Training

Learn practical strategies for responding during an active threat situation.

If you are interested in a department presentation on active shooter response, please fill out NAUPD’s Public Presentation Request Form or email Ask-NAUPD@nau.edu.

CPR/AED/First Aid Training

Learn life-saving skills through American Red Cross certification courses.

NAU employees, students, and community members can participate in Adult CPR/AED/First Aid certification training, which provides nationally recognized American Red Cross certification. These blended-learning courses include online pre-course work followed by a hands-on, instructor-led skills session.

Training includes:

  • Adult CPR
  • AED use
  • Basic First Aid

Location

This is a blended learning course, meaning an online training module is completed prior to the in-person training. This allows students to learn at their own pace and uses the in-person portion for skill-based activities. Interactive, hands-on training sessions are typically held at the Health and Learning Center (HLC).

Cost & Payment

  • NAU Affiliates (faculty, staff, and students): $60 per person
  • Community member pricing may vary. Please contact Campus Recreation for current rates.
  • Departments may schedule customized group trainings.
  • Internal NAU departments can use a SpeedChart to process payment through an Internal Department Transfer (IDT).

American Red Cross certifications are widely recognized and transferable to future employment and volunteer opportunities.

Stop the Bleed

Stop the Bleed is a grassroots national awareness campaign and call to action, that encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.
